vintagebabe Posted November 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Hi there, We are cruising to Turkey and Greece in September 2011 with Azamara. Just wondering if anyone has encountered any problems/difficulties in cruising in these areas lately(due to the Greek ecomony, terrorist threats, etc)? California Native Posted November 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Did you read my live from thread onboard the Journey until Nov 15th I discuss what happened with DH on Nov 3rd in Athens Greece We have spent considerable time in Turkey on land vacations and then again this year with ports in Istanbul, Bodrum, Ephesus and I felt safe not only as a tourist but as a woman However 2 days after we left Istanbul there was a bomb in Taksim Square THAT was a little unnerving because we had been standing in the exact area where it occured. However the target for that was not tourists, but the police and locals. Taksim Square for the 1st time visitor to Istanbul would be much further down on your sights to see list I would return to Greece and Turkey without a 2nd thought. 3418ahl Posted November 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 20, 2010 I too would return to Greece, however you should be aware that although many of the things we encountered on Nov 3 were unlikely to harm any of us from the ship, it did impact some of the people from our ship who took their own independent excursions. Places were blocked off due to demonstrations, and they were advised to return to the ship. So there is always a chance that you might not get to see everything you want, especially in Athens.
