Sailkeywest Posted November 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2010 Has anyone taken this flight? It is not a tour but the company says that the flight is quite scenic. I am searching for any input on this flight. Basically, we are in Juneau from 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm so we would more than likely just have to do the roundtrip flight. Thanks, as always, for any insight :)
PennyAgain Posted November 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2010 I've taken that flight for transportation. On a clear day the scenery is spectacular, but on such a tight schedule I would not attempt to do the trip. You could get weathered in at Gustavus. If you have any fear about flying in mountains, this trip is not for you as it flies straight up the glacier from Juneau.....you do get a fantastic view but those peaks feel so close. wolfie11 Posted November 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2010 Um....I used to live in Gustavus and have taken the flight many times. You don't normally fly over the glacier near Juneau or any other glacier unless you are taking a detour. The flight normally takes off, flies over the inlet, over the island, turns right, flies down the next inlet and lands at Gustavus. There is NOTHING in Gustavus, it is barely a town and the store is over a mile from the airport. Unless you rent a car and drive to Bartlett Cove (Glacier Bay NP HQ) there's not much to see. Hiking in the area is good and fishing is excellent, though.
