Zimomiller Posted November 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 23, 2010 Do you want an audience or do you want it to be a private event? I have assisted others in the past. For one event I was enlisted by a table mate to secretly videotape the proposal. The evening of the proposal I was in the requested Windjammer bar location and began taping when the groom to be came to me and told me that it was off for the night as the bride to be had received a horrible sunburn that day at Orient beach. ( I of course captured this on tape) The next day things went off without a hitch and I captured the event live in a bar and also captured the reactions of the fellow passengers that were there at the time. Very cute and they got a big reaction and ovation. Then I snuck off and accidentally ran into the new couple as they came bouncing out to the atrium and taped the bride to be showing off the ring. She never new about the taping and I mailed the finished tape with lots of other onboard footage to her groom to be after the cruise. He surprised her with it later and it was quite the hit. Another time I conspired with a groom to be with the cruise director to enlist his help in a very public proposal. I was not present for the proposal, but the plan was for the CD to call the happy couple up on stage as part of a newlywed game show and when she protested that they were not married, he dropped to a knee and completed the deed. (Obviously he was very sure of the answer) Good luck with whatever you do, but I would suggext enlisting someone to tape the event for you. It will be a terrific memory. smg53 Posted November 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2010 On our last trip on the Dawn we watched a couple get engaged while enjoying dinner at Cagneys! I think it was a great place, wonderful romantic atmosphere and a very accomodating staff. Good luck!

Shelli Posted November 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2010 My husband proposed to me on our first cruise, back in 1999. He conspired with the maitre d' earlier in the day, and on formal night I was presented with a "special dessert" after dinner, complete with a silver-domed dish. Inside was, of course, my ring in its box. The only downside to the event was that even though we traveled with friends, and even though they had their camera with them (and our camera was sitting right there as well), nobody took pictures! :( I was disappointed about that... but not about any other part of it. I totally agree that proposing in one of the specialty restaurants (perhaps LeBistro) is a great idea! The staff will be only too happy to help out, I'm sure! silkhair1 Posted November 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 24, 2010 I wish I was on your cruise! I would help out in any way, but I would end up crying! Good luck with whatever you choose!
BikerAl Posted November 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted November 24, 2010 I would find Vic, the Food and Beverage Manager, tell him you would like his recommendation and suggestion where, and his help in arranging it. Al
trouble1964 Posted November 24, 2010 #9 Share Posted November 24, 2010 We got engaged a few days before our cruise. He was going to ask me on the cruise but was worried about getting the ring thru the airport without me seeing it, and leaving it in the safe without me seeing it. So he asked me while we were packing. I actually preferred that way because I don't like to draw attention, especially in intimate situations. Now we are going on our honeymoon cruise in April! sdmike Posted November 24, 2010 #10 Share Posted November 24, 2010 I agree with a previous poster. Since you'll be in the same room for 5 days, make sure she's going to say YES before you propose, otherwise it'll make for an uncomfortable 4 1/2 days. :D
LaWeezy Posted November 24, 2010 #11 Share Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) I am here just to get a idea of what and where would be the best place on the Dawn or one of the port of calls. Also open to other ideas. Help Thanks :) What NCL Dawn cruise are you on? I think the newlywed/notsonewlywedgame idea is great. Another idea would be to have someone with a video camera and someone else posing as an interviewer- pretending to ask questions about how they are enjoying the cruise and is it a romantic place to be or if they are a young married couple honeymooning or something to that extent. That way you know it will be on video and she would never expect it. (Just a thought):p Good luck - I hope your going on the 12/12/10 cruise - and let us know on the roll call what and when u plan this - I would love to see it! dilvala Posted December 6, 2010 Author #13 Share Posted December 6, 2010 I finally picked Venitian dinning room, i will post pics later. I had gotten help from the staff, who brought out the ring while singing a song, she was surprised beyond belief. It was 6 of us, her 3 sisters and 1 brother in law. The CD was helpfull also but i decieded to not to do it at any of the shows. And keep it semi private. The CD did announce it at adult comdey show night, and sent me a bottle of champange. Thanks for everyones input.
