Belize with young children

DH and I are sailing the Western Caribbean in 4 weeks with our two kids ages 6 and 7. We are planning on going to Bananarama in Roatan and hanging around the port in Costa Maya. I am looking for ideas for Belize. Snorkeling is out and I don't think the kids would really appreciate a tour of the ruins. Should we do Bannister Island, The eco park or just wander around the port? Thanks for your help!

We tend to be wanderers with our kids. I am always afraid they will dislike the excursion and ruin other people's experience. We may get crazy and do a beach, but that is about all we will do with them. Have fun whatever you do!!!!!!

http://www.smugglersrunbelize.com/ We went there 3 years ago with our 5 year old boy .. they have lots of animals, offer a guided carriage tour through the plantation , let you pick fruit and make lemonade... it was very relaxing and they pick you up at the port and bring you back .... would be back in a heartbeat .

this was our experience in Belize. The SECOND you enter that gate into the city when leaving the cruise ship and the shop area, you are MOBBED with people selling things and offering cab rides. Can be a little overwhelming. I can't imagine what it would have been like with little kids. we took a cab "tour" around the city, and it was a blast! :)

If your kids can handle a 1hour bus ride on both ends, I think they would love the Lamanai ruins excursion. It has a great boat ride through a windy river and hiking through the jungle.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm going to look into these and try to figure out what the kids will enjoy more. I would really love to do the cave tubing but we still have a few years before they are old enough for that!
