How much should we tip??

We will be taking a Med cruise in the Spring.

We will be going on our excursions with one other couple (total of 4 adults)

I have read the following comments and am wondering what to do.

--- For tips, 10 euros/day/pp ... but that varies depending on the number of people in the tour, and the services provided by the driver.

--- We would normally tip $10 pp for an all day tour (8 hours).

--- We tipped between 5-8 Euros/person/day.

--- I do % of tour price - from 5% to 20 % (exceptional)

--- From a European perspective, and the question here is about Europe, a few Euros as a token of appreciation are more than sufficient.

Our ports of call and excursions are: (we will split the cost 50/50)

Athens 8 hours, 250 euros

Istanbul, 9 hours, 300 euros

Istanbul day 2, 5 hours, 250 euros

Ephesus, 8 hours, 350 euros

Naples (Amalfi Coast), 9 hours, 370 euros

Do you feel we should tip 10% or 10 euros PP?

If I understand the circumstances correctly (and I'm not entirely sure I do), then the US$10 and 10% are pretty much in the same ballpark, aren't they? My conversion is US$1 = 7.55 Euros

Athens 8 hours, 250 euros - $10 X 4 = $40 = 30.20 Euros. 10% = 25 Euros

Istanbul, 9 hours, 300 euros - $10 X 4 = $40 = 30.20 Euros. 10% = 30 Euros

Istanbul day 2, 5 hours, 250 euros - $10 X 4 = $40 = 30.20 Euros. 10% = 25 Euros

Ephesus, 8 hours, 350 euros - $10 X 4 = $40 = 30.20 Euros. 10% = 35 Euros

Naples (Amalfi Coast), 9 hours, 370 euros - $10 X 4 = $40 = 30.20 Euros. 10% = 37 Euros

Totals:

$10 per person = 151 Euros

10% = 152 Euros

Either way, you're looking like a higher-than-average tipper to me.

My question was: Do you feel we should tip 10% or 10 euros PP?

My calculations would be:

Athens 8 hours, 250 euros -10% = 25 Euros divided by 4 people = 6.25 euros

Istanbul, 9 hours, 300 euros - 10% = 30 Euros divided by 4 people = 7.5 euros

Istanbul day 2, 5 hours, 250 euros - 10% = 25 Euros divided by 4 people = 6.25 euros

Ephesus, 8 hours, 350 euros - 10% = 35 Euros divided by 4 people = 8. 75 euros

Naples (Amalfi Coast), 9 hours, 10% = 37 Euros divided by 4 people = 9.25 euros

Totals:

10 euros per person = 50 Euros

10% = 38 Euros

Seeing that 10% is an odd amount I could

1. round it down to the nearest euro

2. round it up to the nearest euro

3. go with a flat amount like 5 euros per excursion per person

4. go with a flat amount like 10 euros per excursion per person

I don't want to be cheap, but I don't want to spend needlessly either.

Just wondering what other people would do.
