Cayo Lavantado

XLRATION

Recommended Posts

We are looking at the Cayo excursion through the ship and had a couple questions that I hope some of you who have done this trip can help us with.

There are a block of departure times listed on RCCL's reservation site ranging from 8:30am to 10:30am with a 4 hour excursion duration. We were hoping to spend a bit more time there than just the 4 hours indicated so we thought maybe we could book an earlier tender then return to the ship on a later return. Is this a pretty casual excursion for time or are you commited to getting on the return tender 4 hrs after you arrive?

Also what was your experiences with snorkeling there? Are there fish and coral to see and explore? This is something that our oldest really wants to see and do.

  • 2 weeks later...

We came back from the EOS two weeks ago and we did not take their beach excursion. A couple at our table did and felt extremely ripped off by the $44 price just to get to a beach. There is a local beach a short cab ride from town (near the bridge you will see when you tender into port) and others that you can also get to via cab along with a tour of the area. We were told from these postings as well as by the excursion desk and our head waiter that this port is a waste of time. Not true! The town is charming ($1/hour Internet cafe on a side street) and there is lots to see including a national park via cab. Unfortunately we listened to everyone and got off too late to go anywhere, but hopefully we'll be back and do better next time. One more thing - there is lovely jewelry made out of a native Dominican Republic blue stone which is quite reasonably priced and it's great for either yourself or for gifts. I purchased a set with a necklace, bracelet and earrings for $20 at the flea market along the water. Enjoy your time there and have a great cruise!
