Hand luggage limit on return flight from barbados

we're due to leave shortly for the azura caribbean cruise. Bearing in mind that the suitcases are taken the night before departure from barbados for the homeward flight, this means that everything, but everything, including all clothing worn the night before departure as well as everything needed that night and the next day such as toiletries, cameras, books for the flight etc has got to be included in the miserly 5 kilos hand luggage allowance. We're hoping that the weight limits won't be adhered to so stringently for the return flight and we may even be able to add an additional carrier bag to our hand luggage. Has anyone done this or has anyone some useful tips.

Dont worry about it - as long as youre not too blatant eg carrying 10 bags!

We had 2 bags and a large carrier bag as well as stacks of stuff in pockets. They dont even look at your liquids bag in Barbados so dont go throwing away your 150ml shampoo. Just leave the aerosols behind. Last time there I saw a woman with an XL hairspray cannister - they took that off her!

The only thing they looked at was our mini laptop.

We saw passengers with 2 or 3 bags each in the airport - that was before they bought duty frees.

The airport staff are as desperate as P&O are to get rid of you!

When went on our last cruise last year on Ventura we had to leave one case out the night before when left and the second case in the morning we were due to leave. We put our night stuff in it and then put it outside the cabin before going to brekfast.

Ours was midnight for cases outside the door on Ventura. Don't worry if you're a little late as they're hardly going to make you stay on the ship ;)

As for hand luggage, no one even looked at it in Barbados, other than the security of course, so no worries there. Things can always change of course, but this was how it was in November. :)

We are home today from Azura.

One case was requested out at 6pm and the 2nd by midnight so we simply put our evening clothes in the case when we got back on the last night, a little late but no problem.

That just left a few toiletries and clothes for the morning to go in hand luggage.

They didn't weigh the hand luggage at the airport but they did strictly check all the liquids and were confiscating anything over 100ml.

By the time we left Barbados we had lots of bags holding duty free to go on board and this was no problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

They do look at liquids at Barbados airport. On the way back from our Artemis cruise i left a small bottle of water in our hand luggage by mistake. It was found & taken off us.

Nobody weighed or counted our hand luggage it just went through the scanner

Agree that they DO check liquids, they DON'T weigh hand luggage or count bags (but out of consideration for others only so much goes in the overheads) They DON'T weigh or for that matter even count checked bags either. You are checked in & allocated seats on the ship, some don't use the ships transport to the airport, if you don't DO tell them. Don't just sit on the ship waiting to go home, there are trips organised for your last day, some even go right to BGI. TIP visit the Concorde Exhibit it's right next to the airport.

Yes, on Monday, they were checking liquids, but not checking weights of hand luggage and remenber no-one is checking the weight of your hold luggage as it is bonded and goes straight on the plane, so put as much as you can in these.

People do slip in an extra case going home.
