spotte Posted January 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2011 If we tour only one of the forts, which one is better, El Morro or Fort San Cristobal?
TOlson70 Posted January 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2011 I liked San Cristobal more personally.
wits0711 Posted January 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2011 I am also wondering about the forts...we will have our 6 year old son with us and he really wants to go to one.
rainforestgirl Posted January 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Most people like El Morro better- it is 6 stories high and has so many levels...great place for kids to burn of energy. And the front lawn is good for flying kites. But my favorite is also San Cristobal. Closer to cruise pier 3/4, some more "cool" things, like uniforms, sleeping quarters, and a dungeon. Also, now the outworks are open, so the kids can run on grass and see loads of iguanas! Either is impressive and you could probably see both. Kids are free, adults pay $3 for 1, $5 for both. They close at 6pm.
moran4carnival Posted January 27, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Which fort is the one the ship goes around when docking in San Juan?
estofon Posted January 27, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2011 Which fort is the one the ship goes around when docking in San Juan? That one is Morro Castle, the oldest of the two forts. In my opinion, both forts are equally interesting.
DDMau Posted January 27, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2011 That would be El Morro. Both forts are nice, I would lean more toward Fort San Cristobal it has the sleeping quarters and a dungeon as others have said.
Cordova's casual cruiser Posted January 28, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 28, 2011 I just toured both last week! My vote is San Cristobal. Both are so cool, but that one has a dungeon, as others have said. Drawings on the wall, supposedly by a Spanish captive some 300 years ago!

rainforestgirl Posted January 28, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2011 How far is that one from the port? About 7 short blocks from Pier 3/4. Some on the uphill. Easily walkable in under 10 mins.
perry001 Posted January 29, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 29, 2011 you can also take the free shuttle bus to the forts to save a little time and a lot of energy.

darienill Posted February 2, 2011 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2011 They have a shuttle bus to take you? punch up portoricodaytrips.com for info. They are crowded around the pier when everybody gets off the ship but you can jump on along the route. I'm thinking of taking a cab to El Morro and then maybe a ridde to San Cristobal and walk back. sara mom Posted February 3, 2011 #14 Share Posted February 3, 2011 In December, I took my 4 year old to San Cristobel and she loved it! The dungeon was a major highlight. We took the trolley/shuttle up and took a leisurely walk down. Here is the link for the shuttle bus. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/free-trolley-old-san-juan/
