MelMazz Posted January 25, 2011 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Hi! We'll be cruising twice this year with my son. He'll be 11 months for the 1st cruise and then 1 1/2 on cruise #2. We'll be cruising to beach spots, and I see many people suggest bringing a UV protection tent. I've looked around and am wondering if anyone here can recommend a particular brand that's easy to transport, effective, etc. ...or do you think it's better to just find a beach that has umbrella rentals? I just want to make sure my little one is protected. :) Thanks!
courteliz24 Posted January 25, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2011 I bought one at Babies R Us last spring. I think it was $39.99 and when its folded up its a little longer and rounder than a small rain umbrella. So its easy to pack and carry. I would look online there
cb at sea Posted January 25, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Not all umbrellas have any SPF protection....so do slather on the sunscreen!!!!!
Colorado Kat Posted January 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2011 I would opt for the rental unbrellas. And lots of sunscreen. At 1 1/2, the kid is going to be mobile, and probably won't sit under the baby tent for long.
Kerry's Girls Posted January 25, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Sun protective swim suit (shirt & shorts) from Target or Land's End plus sunscreen & staying in the shade as much as possible should work. The beach tent is great for naps though if you choose to bring it - and all the ones I've had fold flat and have a strap to make carrying easy. milton333 Posted January 25, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2011 Agree with swim suits with SPF. Baby Banz is one brand with SPF50, for example. Also look at suits that are described as "rash guards." We plan to have our son wearing longish swim shorts/trunks and a 3/4 sleeve rash guard top. We're very fair skinned. Diva0881 Posted January 25, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2011 We are traveling with our 10 month old in March. I did a lot of research and ended up ordering the Gengi Sports Pop Up Family Beach Tent and Sunshelter off of Amazon for $40. It is lightweight and compact and comes in a nice over the shoulder travel case. It will be nice to not have to search for umbrellas and pay each time for a rental. It will also fit the adults so that we will always have an escape from the sun if needed!!

cajuncat Posted January 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2011 I would suggest a Peapod tent http://www.amazon.com/KidCo-PeaPod-P...6018533&sr=1-
sunrise&set Posted January 26, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 26, 2011 We brought a small UV beach tent with us when DS was 13 months. I think I bought it at onestepahead.com or you could probably find it on Amazon. A UV sunsuit is a must!! And this was great for the calm beaches - it folds up flat. milton333 Posted January 26, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 26, 2011 And this was great for the calm beaches - it folds up flat. We have the same floaty deal, love it, it really does collapse flat and into a circle a bit larger than a frisbee.
ahamill Posted January 26, 2011 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2011 We got this for a beach trip this past summer and we will be taking it on our cruise in March! http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Play-Tents-Nursery-Tent/dp/B00000IUXC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296066927&sr=8-
exj132 Posted January 27, 2011 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2011 When he is 11 months, he will be relatively unable to move around, so the tent would be great. At 18 months it will be very different. He will most likely be walking/running and will want to explore everything. I would suggest the full bathing suit, a hat and sunscreen. It will be hard to contain him in a tent.
