NY Hotel Convenient to the Port

Can anyone recommend a good (but not crazy expensive) hotel that is relatively convenient to the Manhattan port? We are sailing on NCL with our two seven year olds. We get in the late afternoon before we sail. Thanks.

Does anyone know best place to stay when cruising out of BROOKLYN? Isn't it easier to stay in Brooklyn to be near the departure port with lots of luggage & taking subway to manhattan day b4 than having to go by taxi from Manhattan to Brooklyn day of sailing in a taxi?

Some recommend the Downtown Brooklyn Marriott and some people say lower Manhattan Financial District. If you are leaving on the weekend you can get a better deal in Manhattan Financial District as their business is mostly done during the week.
