Smoking Policy on Carnival

Greetings,

We are frequent cruisers and have sailed Carnival in the past, but it has been over 10 years ago. Our last cruise on Carnival was on the Paradise, which at the time was totally non-smoking.

Over the past 10 years we have mostly sailed Celebrity cruise line as well as Azamara. Both have rather restrictive smoking policies, which we has non-smokers appreciate.

From what I have gathered recently, it appears that Carnival does allow smoking in the cabins. Has anyone had any problems with an odor from previous smoking guests in the cabin? My daughter has allergies which include cigarette smoke.

We are thinking of booking the Fascination out of JAX over her Spring break, as it is close to our home, and several other moms and daughters are interested in traveling together.

Also, wondering how Carnival compares to Celebrity? Just trying to figure out what we can expect.

I would appreciate any input. Thank you so much,

Nancy

Nancy-

First, let me say that I'm on the other side of the issue - I'm actively searching the smoking areas (and we no longer sail on X because of their policies).

I was on the Fascination about a year and a half ago, and at that time, the only smoking area in the main section of the ship was inside the casino. There was also a section on one side in the aft bar, and I believe cigars were also permitted in there. Both of them were definitely smoky as they were the only smoking areas we found. (We did not go to the disco)

I have never personally heard complaints on any Carnival cruise about smoke smell in the cabins, but there have been a couple complaints here on CC.

However, my main concern is that the cruise and crowd is going to be vastly different for you. The Fascination, with the 5-5-4 trips, and lower total pricing, attracts a very different demographic than X and Azamara.

As long as you are prepared for small and older ship, packed to the rails with a spring break 'party' crowd, you should have a great time.

Oh yes... we found the pizza and fresh sandwich station to be outstanding! I had a hot pastrami sandwich every day for lunch.

Have a great time!

Wendy

Carnival permits smoking in all cabins (except the Cloud 9 Spa Cabins on their new ships), on all balconies, the casino, piano bar, a nightclub or two, outside on the starboard side of the deck.

It's fleetwide.

The biggest difference between Carnival and Celebrity is the price. All mass-market cruises are pretty much the same.

Short cruises over Spring Breaks are a whole different matter. The ships are filled with drunken young people...and the ship is packed.

I avoid cruising during that time...on any ship....

Fascination is a lovely ship--one of my favorites. Have cruised on her 5 times in the past 5 years.

Enjoy.

I have never cruised Celebrity....but just from the research I have done...I can not imagine a short "Spring Break" cruise from Jacksonville being anything close to Celebrity.

I look forward to sailing on Celebrity one day soon....but I would not expect it to be like a short Carnival cruise....

Thanks so far for the responses, I understand about the 5 day cruise out of JAX at Spring Break and the fact that it could be rather crazy, in terms of the younger passengers. While I would prefer a quieter crowd, I am going with a couple of other mothers and their high school age daughters. We live in Tallahassee, so it is close.

I am sure it will be a different experience from Celebrity, but hopefully still enjoyable!! I am hoping that it is not going to be totally out of control crazy!!

I was concerned about smoke in the cabins too. The bathrooms have an adjustable vent (looks like a plug in the ceiling; turn it sideways to open) that does a great job of ventilating the whole cabin. It may be that there hadn't been smokers in our cabin for several weeks, but when we boarded there was no trace of an odor.
