Duty Free Shops on Board

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

DD is saving her money for our cruise and wants to know what types of items are available to purchase in the duty free shops on the ship, other than liquor and cigarettes? She's 17 and was hoping to find designer goods--sunglasses, clothing, shoes, purses, etc. We're sailing the Rhapsody. Maybe these types of things are better found in port? Anybody know what's available in Grand Cayman shopping -wise?

For the most part, she'll find things like jewelry and perfume, but not designer goods. The ships sell things like t-shirts, some formalwear if you forgot yours, cheaper sunglasses, a few sunhats, funky handbags and things like that, but not true designer clothing. Even on the islands, the real designer stuff is expensive. Duty free can be a misnomer when it comes to purchases. It doesn't mean you don't have to declare the stuff on your Customs forms, it just means it's free from import taxes. To be honest, Grand Cayman is probably the most expensive stop of any of the islands.
