Truffle Posted February 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2011 Please no caustic opinions about art auctions on board. I am just wondering if Celebrity has switched art companies? We are accustomed to dealing with Park West, however on our last cruise (April 2009 on Eclipse) there was a different company (British Auctions or something similar?) We were told that they were serving some of the Celeb ships and Park West had others. We did not enjoy the new company AT ALL. The auctioneers were not friendly (and yes, we did buy) they were not very knowledgable and the art was almost ALL giclees, with very few true lithographs or originals. Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this?
GRBlizz Posted February 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2011 I really don't know, but we did attend the auction on the last day of our recent Solstice cruise. We are not art buyers (nor even champagne drinkers!), and attended only to see what these things were like. Of the pieces offered, only the few that started below about $300 got any bids, and they went to the first/only bidder. There were only about 30 people there. Maybe they are reducing the price points of their mix so that they can attract more buyers, even if it disappoints their core market?
Pilot70D Posted February 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2011 =X= uses the well known art auction enterprise of Hookem, Hookem and Rookem. :D:D
tispwisp Posted February 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2011 When we were on the Constellation in November, it was British American Auctions. The auctioneer said they were on all Celebrity ships. We've been to many art auctions, purchased in the past, and this was by far the worst we've ever been attended. It was an absolute joke. We normally enjoy attending them. Not this time.
2TravelersBySea Posted April 4, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2011 Celebrity uses British American Auctions out of Pompano Beach, FL. Their BBB rating as of April, 2011 is an "F" rating. The worst. http://www.bbb.org/south-east-florida/business-reviews/auctioneers/british-american-auctions-in-pompano-beach-fl-90016581 You assume that Celebrity has vetted their standard on-board entertainment. SHAME on Celebrity for duping their customers!
