Why are hotels so high in NOLA in Nov 2011?

We are booked on a cruise out of NOLA Nov 13, 2011. Every hotel has really high prices.

I called the Drury Inn and the price is more than twice what we usually pay. The girl that I talked to said there must be something going on then to make the rate so high.

Anyone know why the prices are so high that weekend?

We stayed there Oct. 2010 and the rates were nothing like this. They are almost as much as Mardi Gras rates. The Holiday Inn is $200 a nite! It's usually less than $100. The Drury is $199 and is usually $89. A ton of hotels are already sold out. Still think something must be going on as the reservationist suggested.

Yep same prices for both in Oct, that is why I went with the other hotel. It isn't as upscale but it will do for laying my head down to rest. Firefly told me to keep calling Holiday Inn and asking for the $99 special, they gave it to her 3 weeks before her cruise last time she went out of NOLA. Good luck girl.

OP: The city convention and event schedule shows 8 conventions and festivals going on that week. That is a lot of hotel rooms booked at premium prices. Parking in New Orleans can also be a bear with much going in town. You might have to branch out a bit from New Orleans, consider Slidel or even over on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Lots of Casino rooms always open over here.

I've been looking for Nov 25 date...looks like it is the Annual STATE FARM CLASSIC football stuff.

If you don't mind paying an outrageous ($38 overnight) for parking, lastminutetravel has a 5* hotel rate of $114

(tax makes it $134 + parking.) Fulton parking garage rate is currently $12 day ($84). I was looking at it if I parked an extra day at Fulton but it looks like it is off the map for shuttle service.

Hotel assigned was the Ritz-Carlton & there is a $25 cancellation fee. (I decided to do rewards nights at Marriott.)

There was also a Holiday Inn West Bank Tower that had a free parking for cruise duration with room included for the same rate, but there is no shuttle service, only taxi...which it appears (guessing) rate is probably about $25 one way.

The Park & cruise rate I found was $209 +tax at the close HI in the French Quarter. You save $30 by going the 5* route & parking at Fulton Place Parking for 7 days, overnight at the Ritz. Harrahs looked too far to park at from the hotel for the overnight.

So...

if you are planning on parking at Fulton Place, the best hotel options (if available) look like:

Sheraton

Harrahs (not available)

Plaza Suites

Staybridge

Loews

Ambassador

Renaissance

Wyndham Riverfront

Hilton Riverside

Embassy stes

Courtyard (910 Julia ST)

Marriott (Convention cntr)

Hotel New Orelans

Hilton Garden Inn

Hampton Inn - conv ctr

I found this map at the parking garage

I have checked with Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Drury and any other with the park and cruise deals and they are all full or don't have those rates available for December 3rd. We will probably stay in Metairie at the Hampton Inn. The last time we went out of New Orleans, we stayed there and got a great deal that included breakfast, parking, and transport to and from the terminal. They have almost the same deal now, but they don't include transport from the terminal back to the hotel. I will wait a few months and look again, but we will probably do the Hampton Inn Metairie again.
