retired rascal Posted February 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2011 We loved the sushi on the Pearl and especially on the Star....this winter we ate at the Star sushi bar 3 times....the surcharge is only $15.00 and worth every penny. Don't know about other ships.
2Cruise4Ever Posted February 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2011 Sushi on the Dawn was awesome! Definitely worth it!
vols_159 Posted February 28, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted February 28, 2011 anyone tried it on the sun? or all the sushi resturants on board NCL pretty much the same?
Rare mking8288 Posted February 28, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2011 We ate sushi on the Dawn, Crown (since retired), Star and POA - and they were nearly identical in terms of offering. It doesn't have the wide variety of choices unlike land-based full scale Japanese restaurants - just the basics and not the exotic. The sushi chefs are fairly good and if you know your "rolls" and can name it, they can usually made it with their limited range of ingredients like the Dragon Rolls or Phoenix Rolls (they might substitute, however) and continue until you are full or tell them to stop, as it's really "all you can eat" for $15 p/p. Better yet, I order pieces of sashimi as one can only eat so many rolls made with sweat, vinegared rice w. seaweed sheets. Enjoy!
shmoopea Posted March 1, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2011 Sushi on the Epic was great as well and reasonably priced.
silkhair1 Posted March 1, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2011 My sister gets sushi on every ship we sail on at least once or twice. She says it is so good! I am not into sushi so the answser from me is second hand!
calmpets Posted March 1, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2011 This may be a silly question, but is the sushi place only open for dinner, or is it available for lunch too? I'll be sailing on the Star, if that makes any difference.
Rare mking8288 Posted March 1, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2011 is the sushi place only open for dinner, or is it available for lunch too? I'll be sailing on the Star .... We had both sushi & sashimi for lunch & dinner on the Star while doing Alaska & MR, and definitely open on full sea days. It was not busy and no reservations needed, both surcharged but didn't matter as it's the same menu & you eat as much as you can and wanted to. In fact, we get even more personalized attention at lunch with just 2 of us sitting at the counter. :D As for dessert, ask for the coconut ice cream instead of the green tea or red bean ice cream, something we can't even get sometimes while eating out locally. :p Have fun cruising .... :)
