We were on the Legend in January '04. I have to say, it is by far my favorite ship to date. The staff was all very friendly and provided excellent service. The ship is beautiful and well-maintained. The fact that the cruise was 8 days seemed like "icing on the cake". If there is such a thing as a perfect cruise, our trip on the Legend was it. I can't think of one bad thing to say.:D

I am getting married on the Legend on May 29th. So, glad to hear that this is a great ship.

 

How is the entertainment-- we can decide between the Piano Player in Billie's or the Trio in Satchomo's for the wedding. Any recent eports on the music?

I set sail on the Legend in Oct. 0f 2006. I've never done a group cruise before and I'm kind of excited. I thought that it was far enough out to give me plenty of time to hear the good and the bad. Which it definately has. ;)

 

Today, I'm so excited to read everyone's opinions and experiences on this ship, it gets me just that much more excited. From the things I've seen they do things decently and in order on this ship and I'm glad about it. And I've also learned that a cruise is what you make it.

Mr. Pete, I couldn't agree with you more about the convenience for extended family. My mom and sister are coming from Colorado as well as family from NY. I haven't seen them in an entire year now!

out of NY, where hubby and I live. I can't wait. In particular, I can't wait to spend time on our balcony. We are in cat. 9A, Rm. 8237. We are quiet non-party people and this will be our 3rd cruise. All other times, our favorite part was falling asleep on the deck serenaded by the sound and smell of the sea. Last time we cruised (Victory in March 2000), hubby was not feeling well and wasn't able to enjoy the cruise. He had problems with ear pressure on the flight to Miami that caused him a lot of pain and a visit with the ship doctor. I ended up getting a cold at the end of the cruise. But this time, we better be healthy!

We were on the Legend for the Southern Caribbean cruise. The ship is beautiful and so clean. We had an upgraded cabin Cat. 7A cabin 5182 balcony outside. This was an upgrade form a Cat. 4A inside guaranteed. Fabulous upgrade. We got to Port Everglades at 9:30 A.M. and we were the first ones on the ship. It really pays to be early here.

Everything onboard this ship was fantastic. Excellent food and service, shows were great and the staff so friendly. I have just booked another cruise on the Carnival Liberty for 1/21/06. Have reserved a 4A inside guaranteed again and will hope for an upgrade.

Our very first cruise was 8 night cruise on the Legend in Jan 2003. We absolutely loved the expereince. We enjoyed having a drink in the lobby bar while listening to a trio playing above the bar. The casino was great as it had a guy playing guitar and singing prompting many sing-a-longs.

 

 

The food was fantastic from the pizza to the dining room.

 

I'd sail the Legend again in a heatbeat if the opportunity arose.

It depends what's scheduled to done in dry/wet dock. May be cosmetic; may be maintenance.

I am not too worried about maintenance, because I have no clue how disturbing it can be. Would you be so kind as to elaborate on the maintenance done on your cruise? and how it affected your cruise?

Just looking for some FYI, I have no doubt that my cruise is going to be great!

Downgrade that thought to nothing. It only happened once to me, and I only read about it one other time.

 

It was mostly the presence of a lot of maintenance men retiling the rear pool and refurbishing the deck in the rear of the ship. AND the ship was 12 years old at the time.

We were on the Miracle last July and love the Spirit class. From everything I see, it looks identical except for the decor. Can't wait to start sucking them down.

2. Anyone know the height/width of the Legend? How many floors? Example: someone once said it was the length of 3 football fields and as tall as the statute of Liberty? To give a rough estimate? Anyone know?

When a ship enters dry dock, it is braced to stand up straight and then the water is pumped out. Hence the word dry. This allows work to be done below the waterline, on the hull, rudder, propellers, etc. During a wet dock, the ship is usually worked on only above the water line so the water does not have to be removed. The Legend is a great ship. We will be on her for the second time in just a few days.

The LEGEND is a Spirit-class ship. All Spirit-class ships were designed to maximize passenger load, therefore the long length for a ship of her beam (width). More importantly the Spirit-class ships just barely fit throught the Panama Canal, which makes them a more versatile ship (can be used on the East coast or the West coast by simply going through the Canal). Larger ships would have to go around the tip of Africa or South America. They're also incredibly fast, thereby allowing in an 8-dayer to leave NYC and still get to the Eastern Caribbean and back or leave San Diego and in 8 days go beyond the traditional Mexican Riviera to ports of Acapulco, Manzanillo and Ixtapa. :)

 

These factors all coupled with, IMHO, the best deck layout makes them the future work horse of the Carnial fleet, much like the ole Fantasy-class ships were. :)

 

Usually a ship is only drydocked (very expensive) when those parts of the ship which are normally underwater require work. Painting the hull, repairing or maintaining the azipod propulsion system, etc. All other maintenance can be done in a "wetdocking", as a previous poster so aptly put it (dock space considerably cheaper with more availability).

..It was my first Spirit class and a true beauty. The decor is not old school Fantasy class "glitz", but it is still very "oh wow", and yes one might say the

"Urn" theme is taken a bit far, they are literally everywhere actual and painted.

 

..I also really like the classy pool area..even better than the Destiny and Conquest class.

I want you to just imagine sitting on a chair on the rear deck of the ship on a clear warm night with a full moon bathing the sea with light. You are sitting next to your loved one and both of you are drinking your favorite drink, could be coffee, could be a Long Island Ice Tea. You are talking about absolutely nothing important, but the conversation is soothing to both of you. This moment enables you to realize how important the other person is to you, considering you have spent some much time together and look forward to a lifetime of happiness. Suddenly, you both are distracted because another couple is doing the same exact thing you both are doing, just enjoying each others company. This is just one of the moments that can be spent on the Legend, I certainly experienced the moment.

 

My wife and I enjoyed the ship and the itenerary so much, we are going on the Liberty 11/05, back to Panama, Costa Rica and Cozumel, CANNOT WAIT. The service is great, the food is for the most part terrific. TIP: On port days the food on the ship is not as good when at sea, therefore set your reservations for the upscale restaurant where you have to pay a little extra on port days.

:p How cute is that! That's for the congrats! We were actually married 4 years ago, and had a very VERY small wedding. about 6 people including the pastor. But for our honeymoon we cruised! I fell in love with cruising then. 2006 will be our 5th year and I plan on having the most romantic time of our lives.

Inspired by fishinguspo~ I guess I love cruises so much because in our balcony cabin, we could sit out on the water and just reflect on life and the toll stress takes on us and AWAY from our married life. Ever since the honeymoon, we vowed to always take a cruise to remember how fabulous our very first one was. We will actually be renewing our vows on this ship.

One thing I also remember is how from Miami the further we left the US the water turned colors from brownish-green to turquoise to an undescribable blue. I've never seen water that shade of blue. Absolutely beautiful!
