Sun activities and things to do

We are sailing with 2 other couples on the Sun in a few weeks. While we are all looking forward to the cruise and getting some much needed R&R, I'm a little concerned about one of the guys getting a little bored. He is a die-hard RCL fan (and tends to like the larger ships - Freedom/Voyager class). This is the first time for all of us to sail on NCL. He is looking forward to the cruise and is open minded about it. I would just like to know some of things there are to do on the Sun. What can we suggest to him if he is getting antsy lying around the pool or hanging out on his balcony? Or, what are some activities/areas he may look forward to on the ship? Thanks!

How old is he? NCL always has beer/wine/martini tastings- on port days you stay pretty busy and the shows on NCL are usually pretty good. I have never had a problem finding something to do on NCL, but that is a subjective thing of course. Someone posted the eastern dailies a while back- might check those out and print them for him....give you an idea of stuff in general going on, although comedians may change.

Do have many poker tournaments in the casino?

The casino is only open when the ship is not in port. On sea days they have Texas Hold 'Em poker tournaments. They also have Blackjack tournaments and slot tournaments on sea days.

The activities aboard the Sun depend on the itinerary. There are fewer activities on port days since so many passengers are in port. On sea days there are more activities: golf putting, shuffleboard, various team trivia games, Urban Legend true/false, Wii bowling, are some of the ones I remember my husband taking part in. (I'd rather spend my sea day time reading.) There were movies in Dazzles lounge.

There was Bingo of course as well as art auction. These were all daytime activities. In the evening, besides the entertainment program in Stardust theater lounge, there are also things like Liars Club to watch, (panel is made up of ship crew), NewlyWed,NotSoNewlyWed game to watch (participants are passenger couples), and other shows.

My personal feeling is that if someone gets bored on a cruise, they'd be bored at home. If nothing else, there are lots of passengers to talk to.

Those sound like fun activities. His wife had already noticed the golf area.

What type of movies are shown in Dazzles? Is it a good place to view a movie?

I don't know what golf area she noticed unless one was added during the drydock. The golf putting was usually done in

the atrium area on deck 5 when we were aboard last Sept/Oct.

When we were on the Sun this past Sept/Oct some of the movies they showed were Avatar; Julie/Julia; Mama Mia.

I forget the others. The movies could be watched either in Dazzles lounge or in your room on tv.

The only problem with Dazzles is that it is a thoroughfare on that deck between the aft and bow sections of the ship. Even though the walkway is separated from the seats, it's still distracting to have people walking through and sometimes talking. From what I've read here on CC, that was not changed during the recent drydock.

Thank you for your helpful info on this and my other thread. I'll have to ask her about the golf that she mentioned. It could have just been an activity she read about. I noticed netting above one end of the pool area. I assume this is a basketball court - or a possible golf area?
