smoothsailors Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Would anyone know if the QV casino accepts travelers checks (US $) for chips in the casino? And do they cash them in for full face value? Thank you for any input!
StarFlyr Posted March 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2011 I'm going to guess no on the Travelers checks for casino play (at least at the tables). I know they do take cash at the tables (dollars only). However, I was also able to sign for chips at the table for my OB ship account. I think the daily limit for signing is $1000. All it took was my room key and a photo ID. PS I quickly lost $200 at the crap table and stayed out of the casino for the rest of the voyage.:( And it just didn't feel enough like Las Vegas either. Dorchester Posted March 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2011 The Casino will only accept cash (in US$), or alternatively charge the chips to your on-board account. Regards, David
smoothsailors Posted March 9, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Thank you for the information...would you know if the purser or front desk will give US dollars for American travellers checks (without a fee)?
Sauer-kraut Posted March 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2011 This might be something to try. Go the the Purser's desk and apply the travellers cheques to your onboard account, then you can draw against that from the casino. I'm sure someone else will be able to help you with more knowledge, but its just an idea I had.
Salacia Posted March 9, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2011 To the best of my knowlege, a 3% charge is added to your on-board account if you charge casino costs to your account. Additionally, casino charges can not be applied towards on-board credits. IMHO, if you want to play in the casino, bring USD - and only the amount you are comfortable losing. Quoted from http://www.oceanplayersclub.com/AboutTheClub/FAQ.aspx#Ques38 Question: Can I use my onboard account to get funds in the casino? Answer: Yes, you can use the onboard account card (room card) the cruise line gives you to purchase chips or tokens in the casino. There may be a small fee for the service and a limit on the amount of funds you can take per day or per cruise. There is no charge at the slot machines for using your onboard account card to access funds. Please consult the casino staff onboard for details (copied from http://www.oceanplayersclub.com/AboutTheClub.aspx) Formerly International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) Cruise ship casinos operate in international waters and are not subject to any particular gaming jurisdiction. However we are a member of the CLIA and adhere to their policy for Gaming Guidelines. Good luck. -S.
bronbeth Posted March 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2011 Aboard both the QM2 and QE, the pursers office will cash US$ travellers cheques without a fee (for full face value)... I think the same policy would apply aboard QV.
