PurrSusan Posted March 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2011 OK--now that I've accepted the fact that Harbor Nights Festival ends in early Sept & we will be there in late Sept :( can someone tell us where we could go to see some Gombey dancers? Thanks!
iheartbda Posted March 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Maybe one of the Bermudians who post here will have some suggestion. As far as I know, there is not a particular place you can see them other than some special event like Bermuda Day, Cup Match, or holidays.
PurrSusan Posted March 14, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks iheartbda. I thought about calling their dept of tourism but I was hoping someone would post some insider info :)
sousak78 Posted March 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2011 Afraid that will be the only time you can see the Gombeys - holidays like Bermuda Day or at Destination Dockyard or Harbour Nights. However, don't despair - according to the official website for Dockyard, Destination Dockyard will run until mid-October so if your ship is here on a Monday night, you might get to see them: http://thewestend.bm/attractions-events/events/
Writeratsea Posted March 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2011 When we attended the Boston Globe Travel show in February, the Gombey dancers performed through Bermuda Tourism. And it was a lot of fun watching them. They also performed New Year's day when we were staying at the Fairmont Southampton over New Year's weekend. I would suggest contacting Bermuda Tourism to see if they had any ideas to help you.

Harbour Nights is held in Hamilton on Wed. nights. Unfortunately, it seems the last date is Sept.7, 2011. http://www.10best.com/destinations/bermuda/bermuda/all/events/harbour-nights/ You're just going to have to go to Bermuda again.;) It was a number of years until the moon and the stars aligned for us to see the Gombeys.
