kitty1 Posted March 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2011 We just returned from the 3 nt Majesty, Arrived home later than expected because the ship had a medical emergency and had to turn around and go back to Nassau. Because of this we arrived in Miami around 9:30am and we missed our flight. I am glad we bought the trip insurance because we had to pay over $800 for 2 one way tickets home. Despite all this we had a great time. This was our 9th cruise, 3rd time on the Majesty. Here are some of the answers to the questions people wanted to know about the Majesty. The ship is still in very good shape considering that it is RCI's oldest ship. We did notice alot of movement and rocking on the ship. Especially the first night when we got into the FL straits. Once we got into the Bahamas we didn't notice it as much. We have also been on NCL Sky 4nt to the Bahamas. Just our preference, but we prefer the Majesty. Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived at 11:30am, went to the Priority line for Diamond, Emerald, Platinum and no one was waiting. We were onboard after having our picture taken and getting our sea pass in about 10 mins. Then headed to the Windjammer for lunch. Yes, there is a self service soda machine on the pool deck by the ice cream machine. You need to purchase the soda package and have the mug for it to work. We booked a SOV cabin on deck 9. It was definitely worth it to get this room category because the regular OV rooms are tiny. They say these cabins are obstructed view, but they are only obstructed if you are directly at the window and trying to look down because the life boats are there. We were able to see the water by looking between the life boats. In my opinion the view was not obstructed unless you were trying to look directly down at the water. The food in the main dining room was good. The service the first night was very bad. We had the late seating in Moonlight dining room and it took a very long time from the time we finished our appetizers to get our dinner. The head waiter came over and apologized saying there was a problem in the kitchen and it was not a reflection on the wait staff. We didn't finish dinner until almost 10:30pm. The second night, they were right on top of everything. The comedian Billy Garrett, was good. We had seen him on a previous cruise, but his material was different. We missed the adult comedy show on the last night because we were trying to rebook our flights because they announced we would be arriving in Miami late. We had a nice relaxing day at Coco Cay. We had been there in the past, so we knew to go to the other side of the island were it is not as crowded. Everyone seems to settle in the main beach and snorkel area when you first arrive because they don't want to walk too far. We went in the water, and it was cool. They said it was 74, but it was shocking when you first got in. There is internet on the ship but it is very very slow. When they announced that we were going to arrive late in Miami they said the internet was free so people could change flights, and the internet came to a screeching halt because of the limited bandwidth at sea. At one point it stopped working completely for a couple of hours. I can't comment on the disembarkation process because it was not normal due to our late arrival. Majority of the people did the express walk off in order to catch flights. We had planned to get off the ship early with the Emerald disembarkation, but we missed our flight and our next one was at 5pm. We stayed in our cabin until 9am, then went to the Windjammer for breakfast and took our luggage and sat by the pool. We watched as our 10:30am flight flew overhead without us. We stayed by the pool until the last call was made to disembark. By that time the line for immigration and customs was almost nonexistent and we were in a cab on the way to the airport in a few mins. The cruise director was Dave Chapman. We had him before on Explorer.... Not sure if he's still there. We were the last passengers to leave the ship and there were lots of crew members in the centrum saying their goodbyes. The crew was changing over. Many of them were leaving the ship for vacation. Maxiecat3 Posted March 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2011 What time did you finally get off the ship? My DS and 3 college roommates were to leave on the 4 night cruise on your ship yesterday. They were trying to arrive by noon to board as our 3 previous cruises we were on board no later that 12:30 on any of them. Thanks, Gregg
kitty1 Posted March 15, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted March 15, 2011 We left the ship at noon. We were the last group to depart. There were people waiting to board in the terminal when we were walking down the gangway. The ship left on time. We saw it turning around in the channel from the air shortly after 5pm. There were crew members waiting to leave when we were leaving the ship.
Maxiecat3 Posted March 15, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks for the reply. Sounds like they did a bang up job of getting the ship restocked and ready for the next group. So I guess my son didn't miss too much drinking time:D. Gregg
dcdiva Posted March 15, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Kitty1 - Can you tell me whether or not there was a "formal" night? I have gotten conflicting information, both from CC posters and from RCCL about formal night on the 3day Majesty sailing.
kitty1 Posted March 15, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted March 15, 2011 There is a formal night. Some people did not dress up. On the 3 night they don't really enforce the "formal" dress code. There were people dressed to the nines. Some in tuxes and gowns, others just wearing pants and collared shirts. My husband usually dresses up for formal night, but didn't want to bring a jacket on this one, he did wear a tie. We saw other men with dress shirts and no ties. There is a sign by the dining room that says no hats, shorts, bathing attire, tank tops, or flip flops allowed in the dining room
dcdiva Posted March 15, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks Kitty. Our family likes to have the excuse to dress up a bit. I don't think we'll break out tuxedos and tiaras. But we had planned on at least a suit & tie and cocktail dress.
kitty1 Posted March 15, 2011 Author #8 Share Posted March 15, 2011 The Majesty is older, but she is in very good shape. We had a good time. Enjoy your cruise.
kitty1 Posted March 15, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Here are links to pictures of the dinner menus in the dining room on the 3 nt Majesty. Sorry. It made them really small when I uploaded them. It's hard to see even if you zoom it in a lot.
