Holabi Posted March 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2011 We are due to dock in Villefranche in May on Independence. This is our first cruise and we have seen posts regarding Nice, Monaco and Cannes. We would like to visit one of these places. Does anybody know which would be easier for us to organise. Many thanks, Holabi

Many thanks, Holabi It is a reasonably short walk to the train station. From there, we bought tickets to Nice once and Monaco on our second visit. either of those is a fairly short train ride. I enjoyed both. I do not know about Cannes.

rlse9 Posted March 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2011 Nice and Monaco are both very close to Villafranche, it's about 15 minutes by train (2.5 euros each way) or about 30 minutes by bus (1 euro each way). Personally, I found Monaco to be more interesting and with more to see: the casino, the palace, the cathedral. You could also make a trip to Eze as well, which I also enjoyed with its amazing views, as long as you plan your times for the bus since it doesn't go that often. Cannes is quite a ways away and from what I've heard not that exciting, other than being host to the annual film festival.
browneyes7 Posted April 17, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2011 You could easily do Nice and Monte Carlo from there. We have done this. We took the bus to Nice, stayed several hours, and then took the bus on to Monte Carlo and stayed there several hours. We then took the bus back to the ship. rebeccalouiseagain Posted April 17, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2011 Monte Carlo is lovely. It is close by and there is a lot to do there. That would be my pick.

Many thanks, Holabi Depends on if you want to "do it yourself" or hire a private driver/guide. Last summer we went with Revelation Tours and we saw so many wonderful places in a short amount of time. We went to Nice, Eze, St. Paul de Vence (my favorite) and Monte Carlo. Here is the link to Revelation: http://www.revelation-tours.com/index.php We found people on our Roll Call to share the excursion with, so the price was very affordable. Have fun, whatever you decide. It is a lovely area to explore!
