beddibi Posted March 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2011 I went on the Priority club web page but I don't know what hotels are closest to Manhattan cruise terminal. I'm looking for a priority hotel for 1 night (not in Manhattan, I guess NJ) that will allow us to park our car there for 8 nights while on the cruise. and thats a short ride via taxi, train, bus etc. to Manhattan cruise terminal. beddibi Posted March 27, 2011 Author #2 Share Posted March 27, 2011 I just called the Candlewood Suites in Secaucus NJ and they said that we can leave our car there for 8 nights even with us only staying in their hotel for 1 night. Has anyone ever left their car there before & was it safe? The lady on the phone said that it's a short 5 min train ride into Times Square. Does anyone know how much the train ride is & is the train close to the hotel and where does it drop you off in Times Square? Also, do you think I should get something in writing saying that we can leave our car there? I would hate to get there and them say we can't. Sorry for so many questions. Others can help you better but there are very few park and stay hotels in the greater tri state area and none that are a short easy ride to Manhattan. If you are paying for your room in points, doubtful they are going to let you leave your car for free so please get this in writing from someone. Also, I think there is some grey area with the Candlewood Suites park and stay.
138east Posted March 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2011 "Park/Sleep" is not a big business close to Manhattan - Parking is at a premium and many hotels charge for it. However, folks have reported on these boards making private arrangements with particular hotels. Unfotunately, I don't think Candlewood in Secaucus was mentioned. The hotel is probably talking about taking the NJ Transit train from Secaucus Junction to Penn Station New York. This would involve taking a cab to the train station, the short train ride into NY (scheduled at 12-19 minutes), and a cab to the pier. Train fare is $4.00/pp and cab to the port is probably about $10-15. http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo What's a priority club hotel? Do you get a free room? If not, what would you pay for Candlewood?

Priority club hotels are hotels within this specific chain, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Candlewood Suites etc. When you join their club you get points for everytime you stay at one of their hotels. You can use your points for free night stays. I e-mailed Candlewood and in fact we can leave our car there for the 8 nights while we are on our cruise. 138east Posted March 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2011 Sounds like you have a good plan. Talk to the hotel about the logistics of taking the train. Bus to Port Authority might be an option as well from Candlewood. However, the local buses are not set up for luggage and are rather cramped (whereas the train will have more room). Candlewood Suites provides a free shuttle to Sacaucus Junction from 6am - 9am mon - Fri, so were going to use the shuttle & then take the train. I looked at the pics of the parking lot on their website site, it's very open with lighting. It's also in an industrial area so I think thats a good thing. The lady also said that as long as shes been working there shes never heard of any issues with breakins into cars. By the way 138east, I just want to thank you for all of your advice. It's very kind of you to take the time to help all of us out on these boards. I see that you post alot of good advice on these boards and I just want to take the time to thank you. 138east Posted March 28, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2011 You're welcome, JoAnn. You've discovered another option for cruising out of NY that can be passed along to other cruisers. It's a real deal - parking for 8 days is worth $240 and your transportation to the pier is under $20. Well done! Could you post back to let us know how it works out?
