Hollyhawk Posted April 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Which were your favorite restaurants? What did you eat, drink, how much did it cost? If it matters we will be there 1/26/05 from 8am-10pm on the Ms.Zaandam. Happy Sails to you!

gtaylor Posted April 27, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Hollyhawk; I would just like to point out that a lot of things can/will change between now and 2005. I'd suggest that you check back closer to the end of THIS year. _____ We must sail, sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it -- but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor. TrishnKevin Posted May 14, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 14, 2007 Are there any nice beaches within walking distance from the pier?
The Big Booper Posted May 14, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2007 Great Bay, next to Front Street (in the harbor where the ship docks) Nice to sit and watch but I wouldn't go in the water there because of all the marine traffic in the bay and proximity to areas where sewerage is dumped.  Take the cab to Orient, one of the best beaches in the world. $6 pp if 4 or more in the van-cab (one way)
kal Posted May 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2007 I second the comment NOT to go into the water at Great Bay. Less than 10% of the sewage is treated. The balance is discharged into open sewers which discharge to ponds, lagoons and bays. Great Bay receives two major discharges. One is right at Bobby's Marina which is next to the Great Bay beach nearest to the cruise terminal side of the bay. There are NO discharges into Orient Bay and that water is the very purest on the island. Besides, Orient Beach is rated in the top 3 in the Caribbean. GTO-Girl Posted May 16, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 16, 2007 Orient Beach is just beautiful, but get there early as it gets crowded very fast. Didn't eat there because they wanted $15 for just a hamburger:eek: . Call me cheap, but I just couldn't see paying that when I had a whole ship full of food waiting on me. Does anyone know if that's the about the normal price of food there? We'll still go to Orient on our next cruise in April because we love it so much. The Big Booper Posted May 16, 2007 #11 Share Posted May 16, 2007 For more reasonable food prices, stay away from the big beach bars and head south towards Club O. We have eaten at Pedros (the last place before Club O) and Baywatch (owned by a refugee from NJ and next to Pedros). Baywatch has hundreds of street signs "pilfered" from NJ, such as Parkway, Turnpike, Newark Airport. The prices were reasonable in the past and we will check in less than 2 weeks :D when we tan all over.

We didn't want a whole meal only something to tide us over. We didn't know we were going to have to buy the whole cow!
Since we are going on the Explorer out of Bayonne, no flying and we don't have to worry about the excess weight of the signs. We also talked to the owner years ago when he had a standalone operation on the main road near Mont Vernon (we stayed there in 1999).
