We are taking the Transatlantic cruise from Rome to Texas in October. Can anyone reccommend a hotel in Rome to stay at for a couple of days before the cruise? we want something reasonable, but safe and easy to get to the ship from. Thanks.

Rome's port is in Civitavecchia which is about an hour or so away from the city - don't expect to take a cab! There is train service, but it's not particularly efficient and just as likely to be non-existent (die to strikes) as to be running on time. Best bet is to go with the Cruise line's transfers. You might even take their pre-cruise package if you're unfamiliar with the city.

A good source of accurate info (and reviews) of hotels in Rome (or any other city) is tripadvisor.

Buono viaggio!
