rebeccalouiseagain Posted April 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2011 Venice is open 24/7. I was there over Easter and I was surprised that the Italian Catholics don't celebrate like we do in the US. You'll see some Easter goodies in bakeries but there aren't people dressed up for church on Easter- they were the same drab outfits they usually do. We went to Church on Easter and it wasn't filled. Nothing was closed that wouldn't ordinarily be closed on an ordinary Sunday or Monday. Fear not- they want your money every day.
troywest Posted April 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2011 Venice typically has many more tourists than residents. As a "tourist town" ALMOST everything in the tourist areas will be functioning normally. (Much like Christmas or Easter in the U.S. - many shops & businesses in non-tourist areas will be closed; but in tourist cities - like Honolulu or Las Vegas, most retail shops, restaurants, and business that serve tourists will be open) BUT There will be some issues. Public transportation may operate on a "holiday" schedule; some Traghetto may not operate at all; and some churches may be closed to casual visitors (but you can usually get in by saying that you are there for the service); and some land taxis may try to rip you off with extra charges. Not to worry .... You'll enjoy Venice
