mister exec Posted April 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2011 My wife and I are considering a cruise on the Azamara Quest from Hong Kong to Singapore. There are several stops in Indonesia: Balikpapan(Borneo),Indonesia; Palapo (Sulawesi), Indonesia; Komodo, Indonesia; Benoa, Bali, Indonesia; Semarang, Indonesia Anyone stopped at these ports? Any suggestions of tours to take? I can't seem to find any info on CC. I have someone to visit in Bali, but I know very little about the other stops and any insights, suggestions, helpful links would be greatly appreciated. Rare Keith1010 Posted April 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2011 In Komodo there will be one tour and that would be through the cruise line. On our cruise it was complimentary. We spent a couple of hours on the Island and the main attraction was seeing the Komodo Dragons. There is much to see in Bali so hopefully the person you visit wil take yo uall around there. Bufrenee Posted April 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Not much to see rdo in Indonesia with the short time that you have there, except for Bali and Komodo if you want to see the dragons. The only other port is Manila. Azamara has anothr HK to Singapore Cruise calling at ports in Vietnam and Thailand which would be more interesting. If you want to visit Bali, Would suggest you plan a land trip there and spend more time there as the previous poster said there is much to see and do there. mister exec Posted June 18, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Manila is Not in Indonesia - it is in the Phillipines The reason he mentioned Manila is because this cruise has its first stop in Manila before going on to Indonesia.

Bali - we ported round the corner, but the options from Benoa will be similar. You can hire at the pier a car or van & driver all day for around $50 The craft villages around Ubud. One specialising in wood, one in stone, one in painting, etc. The craft skills of the Balinese in a variety of media is amazing. Super monkey sanctuary in the same area, and an interesting street of craft/souvenirs alongside - a mix of craft goods and tourist tat. Or in decent weather up to Mt Kintamani, overlooking the lake of Danau Batur. Elephant park near there (didn't visit). Skip the buffet restaurant where all the coaches stop, theres a terrace buffet restaurant looking down on a steep valley of paddyfields. And with pet bats hanging at the door. Which we fed. Wherever you go, there's temples. Loads & loads & loads of temples. Every house has a temple - in the grounds of a big house it can be a very impressive building, in artisan houses it'll be just a cupboard. Take small change for any village temple. Super people. Komodo - it'll just be the dragons. Up in the hills they're dangerous - a few deaths every year. In the village & on the tourist trail they're fat lazy overfed pussycats :) Other than researching the dragons out of interest, there's no advance reasearch or decisions to make. You walk the tourist trail or you stay aboard. Semarang - the only place of significance is the temple at Borobudur (didn't visit). Its a long drive, stick to ship's tour which has a police escort to negotiate the traffic. Or coffee plantation and railway museum can be done with taxi or van at the port, stop off on the way back at good modern mall in town about ten mins from port. Sorry, can't help with the others John Bull :)

Semarang - Organize a private tour with Bersukaria Tour, they have many options for you to choose. bersukariatour@gmail.com I posted a review on TripAdvisor and there is more information on their Facebook page.
