Hi Berwyn:

Regarding the convoy, is it only for your group/cruise? or was other cruise lines in the same convoy with you? Also was the convoy with you the whole time to and from places? Thanks in advance!

We did 2 weeks in Egypt in May 2009 and all our trips had a convoy. We were on a land tour; 3 buses. Even when we took the train to Alexandria we had armed guards with us. Also on river cruise up the Nile. Always armed guards on upper deck.

Hi,

The convoy was only for our ship. And this time, unlike 2 years ago, the convoy stuck together going and coming back.

Just to reassure you we had no problems at all either in the convoy or visiting the sites.

We were cruising the 31st March to 7th April. I understand though that there was some disturbance in central Cairo the week after from protesters and while the excursions still visited the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Step Pyramid of Zoser the ones due to visit the Museum in Cairo were rescheduled so as to avoid Tahrir square.

FWIW, someone just posted that their cruise, scheduled on the Pacific Princess in October, has just had Egypt reinstated on their itinerary. We are on the Ocean Princess in October and our itinerary still shows Istanbul, the non comparable replacement, on the itinerary.

Thanks, Berwyn! From what I've been reading, the convoy system has not always consistent. It's good to know that they are stricter about it now.
