What is a sport shirt?

It has to have A collar and no pictures or writing

There are always exceptions. I've seen a lot of embroidered silk shirts by Tommy Bahama, Nat Nast and other designers that have both pictures and writing and look very appropriate. Such as: http://www.islandtrends.com/signatures-by-tommy-bahama-46

So while shirts with pictures and words like these and inappropriate for dinner in the dining room, pictures and words alone do not make a shirt inappropriate.

I agree. Just a colar is all that is required.

I think someone (inappropriately IMO) posted a picture of a guy in the MDR with a NASCAR shirt on. I think that qualifies as a sport shirt (assuming one believes NASCAR as a sport). Although I prefer them emblazoned with my beloved Oregon Ducks. :D

Yes...if my younger son saw those he would be packing his Man Utd 'shirt' (and a whole selection of other footie shirts) - definitely not something I would expect to see in the MDR ;).

So it seems from all of the contributions that as long as his shirt has a collar (and probably a few buttons at least) he should be OK...even if technically it's not a sport shirt. Thank you all.

Yes, a collar and SLEEVES (either short or long). It may seem ridiculous for me to mention sleeves, but sadly we have seen a man trying to enter the MDR in what would otherwise be considered a "sport shirt" (woven shirt fabric, collar, buttons down the front), except it had no sleeves. He was also wearing a Budweiser cap.
