leesy007 Posted April 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I am a first time cruiser setting sail in 10 days! My questions is if I should bring my passport off the cruise while in port? In not, should I bring a drivers license? Does this vary port to port? If it matters- we are going to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize (booking excursion through Carnival) and Isla Roatan. Peg_S Posted April 29, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I leave the passport in the safe, but bring a copy of it along with me on shore excursions. I do bring my drivers license. Peg
Cruise-Crazy Posted April 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Your DL will suffice, leave the passport in the safe.
MissDiva1 Posted April 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2011 You will need to bring your sail and sign card and drivers license.....passport can be kept safe in the safe.....
Alcouple Posted April 29, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2011 You bought the PassPort to prove you are an American. If something happens you will need it to fly home. A copy will do you no good.....
mitchpam Posted April 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2011 In the off chance that you get waylayed and miss the ship, you will need your passports in order to fly. Some people say yes, take 'em and some people say no, leave 'em. I personally like the comfort of having them with me, but others think the ship safe is a safer place to keep them. Pro's and Con's either way.
K&P Luv2Cruise Posted April 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I am a first time cruiser setting sail in 10 days! My questions is if I should bring my passport off the cruise while in port? In not, should I bring a drivers license? Does this vary port to port? If it matters- we are going to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize (booking excursion through Carnival) and Isla Roatan. I scanned each of our Passports which I have sent to a generic email account that is accessible anywhere in the world. Printed colour copies that I laminated and cut to size, then fold them for ease of carrying...we take these with us when going into port and the lamination protects them if they happen to get wet. While you aren't able to fly using the copies, it makes it easier for your embassy to track and replace them if needed. We leave the originals in the safe and also carry our Photo Driver's Licenses. Doing the above gives ME piece of mind...I can go ashore and enjoy myself, and know I can get back onto the ship without issue. :)
Honeyroastedmelnut Posted April 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I'm on the same cruise as you. I plan on leaving my passport with the purser's (sp?) desk and they will get it stamped for me at all of the ports. I'll carry a copy with me on shore. maxxedout2 Posted April 29, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I never leave ship without sea card, credit card/pocket money, sometimes Passport.:eek:
chipmaster Posted April 29, 2011 #10 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Often debated and two camps 1) Its a foreign country thus only accepted universal ID, passport, better take it. 2) All you need is your cruise card. Far more likely to get it stolen or lost versus need it, leave it on the boat Reality is that many cruise lines take yoru passport so not even a debate. Enjoy your day in port without your passport or the worries of losing it :D I am a first time cruiser setting sail in 10 days! StarCruz Posted April 29, 2011 #11 Share Posted April 29, 2011 What about kids? Passport is their only ID.
dprg644 Posted April 29, 2011 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2011 We always take ours off the ship. In Cozumel I know you need to show your DL or passport along with your S&S card.
