Our Grand Turk Review

Wales 2004

Recommended Posts

My wife and I just returned from our Eastern Caribbean Carnival Cruise where we spent a day in Grand Turk.

We really enjoyed our day but would encourage you to reign in your expectations :)

The cruise port is at the southern tip of the island, so if you want to see anything other than the beach that sits in front of the cruise ship, the stores, and margaritaville you will need to take a cab to Cockburn town or the historical downtown. Cabs were readily available and very inexpensive.

We cut the day in two, for the first half we explored the historic downtown, visited the museum, and then strolled down their main road of houses until we reached the Osprey Hotel for a wonderful lunch.

We found Grand Turk to be a wonderful port for a leisurely stroll. The houses and buildings were beautiful, the museum was fantastic, and the view of the water was mesmerizing!

We just posted pictures of the downtown, our walk, and our lunch here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonandnicola

We then took a cab back to the ship, grabbed our snorkel gear, and headed back to Governor's Beach.

Snorkeling was not the best, but worth killing an hour and a half before departing :) We saw several different types of fish and plant life, and the water was the most beautiful blue!

Several people on our boat reported enjoying their snorkeling excursions which visited the coral reefs.

Its hard for me to say as we did not stay there...we just ate :)

I didnt see anything that looked inappropriate...

It is worth noting that it is not a hotel like a holiday inn or a sheraton...its a mom and pop type place, all on one level, and didnt appear to have more than ten or so rooms.

But that is similar to all the other hotels we saw on the island.

Its a tiny place!
