Don't want to spend $680 for 4 for Panama Tour

so can we just take a cab to Gatun Locks on our own and then figure out something else to do that day? I think my kids will be bored with an 8 hr excursion.

 

The tours that cost $150 or so per person involve taking a boat that actually goes through parts of the canal so you can see the locks operating from the inside, not the outside.

 

Both the ship and My Friend Mario offer tours for under $100 a person that go to the Gatun Locks and other places as well for a few hours. You could also get a cab to take you there, but with cab drivers, you pay your money and you take your chances.
