since you are going on the NCL spirit (hope you love it as much as we do) look at lamanai and the river safari. it's an all day tour, we did it through NCL (didn't have to worry about missing the last tender). the tour guide was great, 2nd best day of touring we have ever had (best was ephuese)

cozumel doesn't have good ruins on the island, you have to take a ferry (rough seas) and a long drive to get to tulum.

lamanai is not a ruin, the jungle has kept it looking close to original condition. it's an amazing place...howler monkeys in the trees. indiana jones could have come running, out ot the trees, and i would not have blicked.

when you do a tour through NCL, you get 1st tender. no worries about making your tour. the ticket should say to meet in the theater, there they will call your tour and you go down, get on the tender.

I'd agree that Belize ruins, Lamanai, Xunantunich or Altun Ha are good ruins to see. Coz's ruins are way too small and Tulum is a bit far to go for the short time you're there. Plus you must stay on the marked paths and can't climb the temples. Excellent vista along the coast though. Roatan has no ruins. Costa Maya is near 3 ruins and all are very nice. Native choice offers a great tour of Chaccoben and it's the closest most accessible one to the port there.

having done all the 3 that are mentioned thru NCL...i am GLAD we did TULUM from Cozumel even tho it was a rough ferry...it was WORTH IT...they are AMAZING!!

if you want easy to get around ruins in Belize Altun Ha--Lamani is much longer day and harder walking...but i am GLAD i have been to all 3!

You might also ask yourself what other things you want to do. If beaches are your thing, then pick Belize for your ruins since the other ports have better beaches. If you want to go cave tubing in Belize and you don't care about beaches, then maybe pick Costa Maya for your ruins.
