More wonderful review & pictures. Lots of great tips/ideas too. LOL about the public service announcement, love it.

I have a question for you regarding the zip line in Jamaica. Were there lockers there to rent? I am guessing you really can't have much on you when you do the actual hiking & zip lining.

Thanks

Yes, there are lockers for $9, I think. My husband had a small backpack on and I had a cross-body purse on the entire time. So long as it doesn't interfere with the harnass, you're fine. The harnesses go around your legs and waist. I would make sure whatever you take with you have a secondary strap just in case...once it falls off, you're NOT getting it back.

Sea Day, May 28

We woke up at 9:00 AM and turned on the tv so we could watch the debarkation information. We discovered there is a morning show on tv every day! hahahaha I guess we were a little late with that one, huh?

At 10:00, we walked around the ship and bought some more photos. After that, we found seats in the lobby for Win, Lose, or Draw. That was really fun. Maria from Name That Tune was running it so I wan't sure I wanted to do it but it turned out just fine.

At 11:00 AM, we went to the future cruise talk. We knew we were hooked from the moment we stepped on the ship so we figured this would be a good way to find out about our options for cruising again. :D

At noon, we hit up the Lido for one more lunch. Half the buffet was "Italian 2" and the other half was dessert! They called it a chocolate buffet but there were non-chocolate desserts too. I was very happy with this lunch. hahahaha

After lunch, we went back to the room to start the sad process of packing. Thanks to CruiseCritic, I knew about the Fun Farewell party and the Fun Times said it was at 5...I didn't want to miss it (and the free drinks!) so I packed up early.

Around 2:00 PM, I decided I needed a DOD to drown my sorrows of impending debarkation so I hit up the lobby bar. Then we went to the trivia game in the main stage. I only knew 1 answer and didn't get picked anyway so that was kind of a bust. It was fun to watch but I felt kind of dumb for not knowing more!

Once that was over, we went to the future cruise kiosk and put down a deposit on our next cruise!!!! We're on the Magic next May on the exotic Western Caribbean itinerary! WHOOOHOOOOO!!!

At 3:30 PM we went up to the fun shops for one last raffle (didn't win...again!) Then we ate a snack of pizza and went up to the room for a rest.

Then it was time for the Fun Farewell at 5:00 PM! As soon as we walked in, there were waiters standing around with trays and trays of drinks to handout. They had red wine, white wine, screwdrivers, rum punch, lime daiquiris, and some others I don't remember. hahahaha I had A FEW of them. :p I gave the waiter $1 per drink. They came around immediately upon me setting the empty glass back on the table. The band played and Paul, the CD, came on stage and said a few words. It was fun!

(Sea Day continued)

We went to dinner in the MDR at 6:00 PM. I had navy bean soup, salmon with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The soup was mediocre but the rest was good. Hubs has a crab cake, prime rib with baked potato and creamed spinach. His was excellent. I had assorted cheeses for dessert and he had cappuccino pie. Both were rich and delicious.

At 7:45 PM, we went to the final watch raffle of the cruise. What do you know...we didn't win. hahaha Since we didn't get any free ones, we each bought one. We went back to the room hoping the on-shore alcohol we had bought would be delivered so I could finish packing and put our bags out. It arrived right on time at 8 PM.

At 9:15 PM, we walked around the ship one more time. We were both quite sad that our wonderful cruise was coming to an end. We lifted our spirits by "playing" a game of ping pong. We are both terrible at it so we didn't bother ourselves with "rules" or "points" or even "hitting the ball". hahahaha

We returned to the main stage to watch the Carnival Legends show at 10. This is where passengers from karaoke dress up as musical legends and put on a show complete with dancers! It was hilarious. The first was James Brown. This guy was pretty accurate! He got the high pitches and dance moves down pretty good! Next was Aretha Franklin and she wasn't quite as good. But she was giving it her all! We also saw Britney Spears, Ricky Martin. Gloria Estefan, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Elvis, and Frank Sinatra. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. Elvis wasn't good at all but I think that's what was entertaining about it. He tried, poor thing. He really tried. hahahaha

In true fashion, we got one last piece of pizza on the Lido and retired for the night. This was our last towel animal:

Debarkation Day, May 29

Sad, sad, sad. I didn't want to get off the ship! I was moving slow all morning. We woke up about 7:15 AM and took our carry-on bags to the MDR for breakfast. We both had the eggs benedict and enjoyed it very much. Then we found a spot on the Promenade to wait for our zone to be called. The lines weren't too long and moved relatively quickly to get off the ship.

Once off, we found our luggage easily in the terminal. There were 2 exit lines: passports and other documents. I highly recommend getting a passport. The passport line flew by. I could hardly drag by luggage and get settled before it was time to move up a few feet again. The other document line hardly moved at all. People in that line were giving the passport line people dirty looks.

Customs was easy...almost scary easy. I had never filled out a customs form before so I didn't really know how to do it. When they said declare ALL items, I did. I used 2 forms and listed out as much as I could like rum, tequila, baseball hat, picture frame, etc. I guess you don't really have to declare all the small stuff. They are mostly worried about the alcohol and expensive items. The guy looked at our passports and customs forms and told us to have a nice day. That was it! Not one bag was opened or inspected. I thought there certainly must be some other table around the corner where we would be inspected. Nope. We went straight to the car. It was easy but a little worrisome that it is so easy to bring things into the country.

More to come (including more pics)...

The Conquest is a beautiful ship. I wish I had taken the time to take more photos of her to highlight the details. Here are a few shots:

I have all the Fun Times. If anyone wants to see them, I can scan and post them. Just let me know. Also, if you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

I hope you enjoyed my review. There was so much to do and see. There's no way I can truly describe how much fun we had. I hope it came across in the review. I highly recommend the Conquest and the Western Caribbean Itinerary.

Thanks for reading!

Thank you for taking the time to write your great review. We are going to be on the Conquest for the first time this coming Oct. We are booked in a balcony room because I was afraid if Hubby doesn't like it I may only get one shot at this ;)

I can not wait !

Totally off topic I know, but Fire, with over 50,000 posts, I wish your avatar was an actual picture of you. I've always wondered what you look like.

OP and Fire, you are both much braver than I am. We've been to Jamaica 3 times and I won't go into downtown Montego Bay....we usually just go to Sunset Beach.

I agreed...Fire always answer my post with great info.

I love Jamaica, but I don't like Montego Bay. We have visited Jamaica many times on land trip, we felt very safe. Even travel up to the mountain to visit schools and bring school supplies to the kids. We love Jamaica foods too.

I am so glad they are building Falmouth, that could bring a lot of jobs for the country. But I hope the Lagoon didn't get destroy in the process.

  • 1 month later...

Your review was great. I was wondering about the shows, especially the comedy and the music bands. Do you think the comedy was family friendly? In 2007 we were on the Conquest and the comedy was R rated and that doesn't work for us. Also, what type live bands were on board? Anything to dance to? We really enjoyed the dance floor/music in the main lobby in 2007. Any information would be appreciated. :)

I would love if you would scan and post your Fun Times! DH and I are cruising this same itinerary and ship in September, so I was hoping someone might post something more "current" :) THANKS!

Loved your review, and so glad to hear you enjoyed it so much. A tip for you...I've done both inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms. Be ready to know that for most people, myself included, that once you do a balcony, there will be no other option - except maybe a suite! (Which I haven't done yet because I don't want to fall in love with one, since I am not in love with the price!)
