Thanks so much for the review - it couldn't have come at a better time as I just booked the Golden for the 11/23/11 sailing to Hawaii. I do have one question concerning the evening in Honolulu - do you recall what the entertainment was? I ask because on several occasions we have gone off our ship when late in port only to return and discover there was a very good local group brought on board for the evening's entertainment. We have been to Honolulu a couple of times in the past so if there is decent local entertainment on board, we will probably decide to do that instead of staying out late.

The Halau Hula Olana Show was a great little show we saw in Honolulu on the Golden Princess in January. It is actually a school that teaches students traditional Hawaiian songs and dances. The boys and girls did a fantastic job. My wife and I thought it was an outstanding show.

Check out post #10. I really didn't book this for the ports, but mainly for the sea days. The ship is a big part of the destination for me. I did go to the casino a few times and won at Black Jack :D! I can't go there much as I am allergic to cigarette smoke. At times there were very few smokers in there so I did well. Enjoy your upcoming cruise!

I agree with you 100% about the Golden (and a little bit of that Ho-Hum feeling of that ship and crew). Except for the fact that we took the first cruise to Alaska this season on her. Otherwise, everything you said was spot on (we did eat in the MDR quite a bit and found the food to be good, not great).

We were on the Sapphire the week before for the Coastal cruise and the contrast between the 2 ships, the staff and the feel of the Sapphire versus the Golden was just HUGE! Sapphire's staff was always super friendly and smiling and everywhere you went people would greet you and ask if they could help. On the Golden, it was a grunt as you walked past someone in the hallway with the Princess tag on. The food was far better on the Sapphire than the Golden even though we had the IDENTICAL menu for the 2 weeks. And the ship itself, while refurbished with some nice additions, felt more crowded and stuffy and full of people than the Sapphire did. Granted this was a 7n cruise, not 14, but your observations I felt were spot on!

Thanks for the honest review. I am with you 100%. And of course I really enjoyed our Golden Cruise to Alaska, but I have found my other Princess cruises to be much better in the past...
