cruzin2011 Posted June 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2011 We will be in Barcelona pre-cruise at the end of June for 3 nights and have a son with extensive food allergies ( dairy, egg, wheat, tree nuts, fish are the main allergies). Meats, veggies, spices, are not an issue. We will be traveling with allergy cards to provide the chefs when eating out, but it is still difficult getting the point across regarding cross contamination. From what we have read on line, Spain does not have much experience with food allergies, but we were wondering if anyone else that has travelled to Barcelona has dealt with these type of issues and can recommend any restaurants that understand food allergies. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
edunava Posted June 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Hello from Barcelona.:) In every restaurant dishes can be ordered with specific specifications, depending on your needs. Greetings. Edu & Montse.
riffatsea Posted June 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Your son seems to have many allergies, not just one! I have friends who dealt with the allergy situation by e-mailing chefs ahead of time at some of the better restaurants who offer tasting menus to see if they would be able to accommodate his needs. I don't know if you are planning to be at those types of places or at just low key local places near your hotel? I wonder if you have traveled before and how you have handled it? I would think that the allergy cards which list the ones to watch for would be the best thing. Barring that, you could always stay in an apartment where you could do the cooking yourself.
