Reversing Waterfall St John

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the best time to experience this in St John? We have the times for high and low tides but what time is best; just before high tide;, just after low tide; somewhere in the middle? Thanks for your help.

The Reversing Falls are not a waterfall. They are a set of extreme rapids. The tides in the Bay of Fundy are so high that at high tide, the river current is overpowered and the rapids flow upstream. At low tide they flow out of the St. John River into the harbour through a very narrow channel at great speed. The greatest action is either at low or high tide. At slack tide the river and harbour levels are even and it is possible to go through the falls in a sailboat under power. I have done it a few times.

There is a jet boat thrill ride at the falls which will take people out into the falls if they are brave enough. There is also a zipline operation there at the falls as well.
