children under 18 (USA rule not an adult until 21) don't have a dress code but are asked to dress smartly as for the kids club when I was travelling as a child with cunard i never used it I was to busy being a kid exploring I did once go in (baring in mind this was 4 years ago) and found it was handy if there was nothing else to do on the odd day but trust me kids being kids exploring give them a camera (depending on their age) and let them loose. hope this helps from a 1st hand prospective.

Hi Just wondered if anyone can share their experiences of travelling with children. Do children normally dress up accordingly in the evenings? What is the children's club like?

Unless they are very young they usually do, in fact some quite young ones do as well and they all look very smart. As to the club, I understand that they are very good and I have no personal experience of it, but I have never heard anyone moaning about the club or the kids.

I'm bringing my grandson on QM2 on 1 July. He is 10 years old. I understand there's a Play Zone where we can go after we embark and find out what activities will be available. I understand the nannies take great care of the children and everybody has a great time. That will include me, of course, because I know he'll see more and do more than these 77 year old legs can handle. I hope to spend the majority of time with him, though, because I just want to see the happiness on his young face. "Let him have his heaven at this end of the spectrum," as my mother told me once about my daughter, whom I thought I was spoiling.

Re dress: I told his dad I thought a little suit with tie would suffice for formal, and a perhaps a blazer with/without tie for semi-formal and elegant casual. I figured why spend a lot of dough on something he'll grow out of soon. No, said his dad, the lad wants to wear a tuxedo. So he's bringing a tuxedo. I cannot wait.

I'm just sharing what's going on with me. I defer to whatever choice anyone else makes.

Jon.

We've sailed with children several times on the QM2 ranging from 18 months to 8 years and I cannot fault it. The kids' club is great. The younger ones do all sorts of activities, the older ones do tours of the ship, treasure hunts etc. All the children still talk about it. There is a childrens' tea in the Kings Court at around 5pm or the children are welcome in the restaurants. All the staff were wonderful with them, chatted to them and treated them with respect. In return, the children were very well behaved and we never saw any incidences of bad behaviour from any children on board.

We've just booked to go transatlantic again in August with the same children. They'll be delighted.

Edit: Just realised that "all sorts of activities" doesn't really answer your question! My daughter came back every afternoon with drawings, paintings, craft things she had made. They had stories, there is a soft play area inside and an outdoor playground area. Each day had a theme and the activity tied in with that theme. So maybe one day it was sea creatures, another day it was pirates etc. In the evening, if you wish, you can bring them back to the kids' club while you have dinner. They put out beanbags and the children watch dvds and mostly fall asleep.

This is all optional of course and they can go into the kids' club for as long or little time as you wish. As I said, the children are welcome in most parts of the ship, save the casino and the like. I would advise that you register with the kids' club as soon as you can though. We found that they left information in our cabin if they knew we had children with us.

Hello southamptoncruisers....

My family is on the 22nd August roundtrip TA from NYC. We are bringing our three kids - 13 boy, 11 girl and 7 year old boy. This is our fourth TA with our family.

Our kids have almost grown up with the KidsZone staff, with some of the staff that have been on QM2 for years. The team is exceptional with the children. Our children have also stayed in touch with many others they met during their time in the KidsZone.

Enjoy....my kids are counting the days.

We took our 2 year old (at the time) on the QV in February and there were 3 kids total (plus 3 kids of staff members)!
