BobKat406 Posted June 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 23, 2011 For those recently on the Jewel who like the casino, how smoky is it? Don't want to be slammed - just want to know what both smokers/non-smokers think of the air quality/ventilation. I've read some reviews which say its intolerable and others who talk about but it doesn't seem a big deal. I'm a former smoker so I can handle it but DH hates it and will be very upset if its truly intolerable since he loves to gamble.
billys mom Posted June 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2011 I'm a non smoker and hate to be around smoke, so I would be curious to know too. The last cruise we took was a non smoking cruise and it was nice to not have to worry about being around smokers.
Dayenu Posted June 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2011 I cannot stand smoke - ventilation is good, unless a smoker sits next to you.

I can't stand smoke either, and didn't find the casino to be smoke filled or uncomfortable. Cruised June 11th.
PACRUISINNANA Posted June 24, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I also was on the Jewel in May. I spent a lot of time in the casino and didn't have a problem with it being smoky. I'm a non-smoker. The problem I had was the machines were so tight.
galleycook Posted June 24, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2011 We were on the Jewel last July and are non-smokers. The smoke (in the casino) was obvious but not intolerable. We never stayed more than 1/2 hour at a time. I guess it really depends on how many smokers happen to be on your particular cruise. I do think they could do a better job of ventilating the space though.
Tyskie Posted June 24, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I cannot stand smoke - ventilation is good, unless a smoker sits next to you. For the most part, tolerable unless a smoker is next to you. Avoid the busiest times (right after a show) if possible. During the sea days or late at night it's not bad. I'm a non-smoker. Just on Jewel in May. garycarla Posted June 24, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 24, 2011 My comment about the smoker was not that they were smoking. I don't like it, but respect their right to do it. My adjective was referring to one on a particular cruise that kept the cigarette on my side and did not care where the smoke went. She almost was waiving the cigarette at us - as in "get out of my space". I spend lots of time in casinos, and about 20% of smokers are terrible and nasty. Another 20% have no idea where their smoke is going. Another 20% work hard at not bothering others.
mas90guru Posted June 26, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2011 We spent a fair amount of time losing in the Jewel casino. The smoke was not bad. Naturally if you're sitting next to someone who is smoking you'll have a different experience. If that happens and it bothered us we just moved.
