Never been to this island but looking for info on all the boards. Found some good sites I think ?!?! ( haven't been thru them all yet(except a quick glance)

http://www.bviwelcome.com or http://www.b-v-i.com. We usually get off the ship and try to find a cab or tour person to take us around. Hopefully we will find this a possibility on Tortola too. If anyone has any ideas would be thankful for your thoughts. Knarf(Frank backwards)

I was just there in November. This is the most beautiful island that I have been to yet. We took a cab to Brewer's Bay beach. In order to get there (or to any of the beaches on the island) from the port, you have to travel to the other side of the island through the hills. The cab ride is half the fun because of the views from up high. Our driver kept stopping to let us take pictures, and they turned out great! Brewer's Bay was nice and uncrowded, but it had beach chairs available for rental, as well as a snack bar with a bathroom. Just arrange a time for the cab drive to come back to pick you up, since this place is a little bit out of the way. The cab drivers are very good about coming back for you, so don't worry. In any case, if you forget to prearrange a pickup time, the snack bar people will call a cab for you. My only regret is that so few cruises go here, and I can't wait to go back!

I highly recommend you catch a ferry to The Baths at Virgin Gorda.

We had a great time and want to get back there as soon as we can.

Here are complete details about The Baths and the ferry. (It's part of our very detailed report from our Eastern Caribbean cruise).

Prospect Reef where Dolphin Discovery is located has been SOLD. You might want to confirm or change your plans.

The organisation explained that the current pen is not naturally flushed by ocean movements and they feared that members of the public could contract eye, ear or throat infections from added faecal content in the water.

Aloha knarf - wondering if you are there RIGHT NOW?!?!? I'd love a review or some suggestions if you have any upon your return

Anyone have any other ideas or tidbits they would like to share regarding Tortola and the Baths and Pussers? :confused:

Hello we are very interested in what you advise about the baths. Thank you for all the information. Also could you tell me how you booked a day pass in Nassau to Sandals?:confused:

Mbe30's info on Tortola and Brewer's is spot on - great job man! And I agree that the ride over the mountain is one of the best parts of the trip. Some folks have reported it as being very dangerous or scary and I just have to laugh . We stay on Tortola and it's our favorite island - she's beautiful and offers not only gorgeous beaches like Smuggler's Cove, Long Bays, and Brewer's, but close proximity to Josts and Virgin Gorda for easy day trips.

As far as Brewer's, it is much less crowded than Cane Garden Bay where there are 6 beach bars. We've stayed at Myett's in CGB and there will be 5 - 7 25-person safari taxis dropping folks off and picking them up later. Brewer's has only one beach bar, Nicole's, and he serves a great burger. Much quieter and good snorkeling there as well. There are other beaches that are more beautiful and devoid of cruisers (Smuggler's and Long Bay, Beef Island) but there are also zero amenities. Smuggler's is a great snorkel spot. There is a resort (Long Bay Resort) on Long Bay, Tortola that offers day passes to their pool and property if interested in that, I believe it's $20 or 25pp, or $45 to add a sandwich and 2 drinks. Long Bay beach is beautiful and long but no amenities on the beach other than Nature Boy's shack a short walk down toward Smuggler's.

For other options from Tortola Jost Van Dyke on White Bay is doable if you have time, there are at least 4 options -

The ship excursion which departs from near the ship;

bvi360.com which involves a taxi to the West End ferry and a snorkel stop on the way;

A water taxi out of CGB, that has to be planned ahead of time and is harder to line up;

A self-excursion, taking a taxi to the WE ferry, ferrying to Great Harbor on Jost's, and taking a taxi over the hill to White Bay. Figure 2.5 hrs travel time at least.

White Bay is home to the Soggy $ Bar, Ivan's Stress Free Bar, Seddy's One Love Bar, and others. Great Harbor is home to Foxy's.

And the Baths on Virgin Gorda are a popular self-excurson, this is a collection of boulders scattered along the beach that create grottos and trails, very unique and neat to experience. Just walk or taxi to the ferry dock and grab a tazxi on VG. You'll find a ton of other threads with more ideas on what to do on VG. Just search the forum for the Mineshaft Cafe, Savannah Bay, Top of the Baths, and Mad Dog.
