Is this do-able: Sheraton - Fish Fry - Bay St shopping

Hi! It has been many years since I have been to Nassau. We will be in port on a Monday from 7am - 5pm in August on Carnival Fantasy. Since we have a long-ish time in port, here is our plan.. Any thoughts?

1) Get off the ship ASAP and take the #10 jitney to the Sheraton. (running that early?) Get there around 8am or earlier. Hang out at the Sheraton for 4 hours or so, until around noon.

2) Cross street and get a drink at the Daq Shack, and then catch the jitney to the Fish Fry. (This is still the #10, correct?)

3) Get some fritters and sides, and a couple cheap beers for "lunch".

4) Check out the shops on Bay for some local souvenirs. Maybe if a little extra time allows stop by the straw market or Senor Frogs just to say we went. LOL (Does the jitney go from the fish fry to the area with the shops on Bay, or should we walk. Safe to walk, as long as we use some sense?)

5) Head back to the ship around 3-3:30pm.

Thanks! :)

Anyone?? I am hoping someone can tell me if this is a realistic schedule, it is hard to picture how far away things are, etc. Thanks! :)

I don't think the Sheraton beach and pools are open til 9am.

Usually they are cleaning, raking, setting up chairs.and getting ready.. Towel hut doesn't open til 9am.. same for restrooms and lifeguards.

You might be able to be on the property. Not sure about that.

Can't buy liquor before 10am.. so the Daq stand opens around that time. Not sure I'd make a special trip for this. Most places make great fresh fruit daq's. Wyndhams' daq shack is terrific. There's plenty of construction in this area.. roads are torn up, traffic diverted.. they may not even be there when you arrive. (the resort is untouched by the construction... it's all in the roadways and across the street.

All in all...It's doable.. but I'm tired just reading about it.

keep in mind that things are S L O W in the bahamas.. Grabbing conch fritters and a beer could take you 90 minutes or more.

#10 jitney is still the way to go.. They run from 6am - 6:30 pm.

Thanks for the response! We were just in port for such a long time, I wanted to have a plan instead of lying around the Sheraton for so long. We will take our time getting off the ship then, before heading over there. We were hoping to avoid sky-high drink and food prices at the Sheraton by hitting the fish fry and the daq shack, but I guess we will just "suck it up". :)

Maybe if we get bored after 5-6 hours at the Sheraton we will mosey over to the casino at the Wyndham before heading back to the ship. How are the drink prices there, or are they comped when playing (a la Vegas)?

No free drinks at the Crystal Palace.

Stopping by the fish fry on the way back may be a good idea.. get a taste of the bahamas.. plenty of great daquaris there.

I figured as much!

I think that may be what we do... we like to get some local flavor, rather than just eating something like chicken tenders at a resort. Thanks again for your input! :)

Hi. Can I ask you how you know about the fish fry and how will you know when to get off the bus after the Sheraton.

I'll have 2 teens with my dh and me and this may be a nice idea after the day at the Sheraton but I'm sure we will end up drinking and eating there too.

I do plan on taking my rum runners with me and my soft sided cooler with ice and bringing a drink or two or three with me. I think I'll be albe to purchase a drink and then keep using my cup...hhhmmmm.....

Just tell the jitney driver to drop you at the Fish Fry.. there are big signs, you can't miss it.

As for your comment about a cooler.. they are not allowed on the sheraton property (most hotels have the same policy) .. there are signs the no outside food is allowed on the beach/pools area. I'm sure you could sneak in a bottle of water or so.. but no coolers full of goodies.

They are in business to make money.. that's why they allow cruisers to use the property.

Thank you very much. I have a soft sided small cooler that I may bring and put in my backpack. I appreciate your informing me and also letting me know about the bus and fish fry. I greatly appreciate it!
