Though I guess it is too far to drive from Manchester for only a couple of hours, the South Englanders are LUCKY!!

If we've EVER had a visit day at any US port (on any cruise line), then I don't know about it.

Anyway, thanks for posting this :)

I have a friend who lives in Southampton, and he's never cruised before, so I'm hoping he can make it.

We're cruising on Opera on the 22nd so there is no way I'm going to make the drive down a week before. But as you say for southerners it would be a good way to check out a new line.

I hope your friend can make it

You are right, most cruise lines don't have to resort to this level to attract customers.

I've been offered ship visits on Fred Olsen, HAL & MSC this year so everyone who is trying to get the UK excited are offering days.

I actually just think that consumers are getting more choosy about where to spend their money and ship days are a great way of finding a product that is suitable for you ~ I prefer more mid size ships so all the companies I have received offers from who are sailing ex-uk are offering the size of ships that I like. Not to say I wouldn't do the big ships I'd just be staying away from the likes of Carnival and RCI and offering my money to those lines which I feel offer better value.

We will be boarding for our cruise on that day... I wonder how many visitors they will have and weather it will make for a hectic check-in and a delay??

Wouldn't think so. You are due to sail at 16.00 which will mean official embarkation will start at 13.00, after the day vistors have boarded. If however you decide to turn up a few hours before the official start time, then it is likely that you will be inconvenienced/have a wait as a result.
