Wildlife on River Wallace boat ride in July?

We're sailing on the Valor during the last week of July. We've scheduled Carnival's excursion that includes a boat ride on the River Wallace followed by a tour of Altun Ha. It will surely be hot, but I wonder: will summer heat significantly reduce the number of animals we will see on the boat ride?

Also, does the "river" boat pick you up at the ship, or do you have to tender into Belize as well as back to the Valor?

Thanks. Cruise Critic has helped us so much on our other cruises!:)

I just did this excursion last week. YES, it was hot!!! We saw alot of monkeys in trees, one alligator and some iguanas. The guides said usually they see manatees but the weather wasn't cooporating. It has been raining for 4 days before we got there, so the water was brown instead of the usual blue. You couldn't see down into the water, so we couldn't see any manatees.

You will meet in the lounge at the front of the ship and tender to Belize. Everyone is broken into groups. Some do the ruins first, then the river and the others do river first, then ruins. Either way, you take a tender back to the ship.

Just did this. It was grueling. 2 1/2 hr. boat ride. Saw 2 alligators, a bunch of birds, bats, monkeys, iguanas and orchids. 30 min. lunch, chicken was dry, rice and beans very ordinary. 45 min bus ride to ruins. HOT! Long bus ride to tender. Everyone was complaining about how tiring it was. Missed late dinner b/c I fell asleep. Hated this tour.
