atlgirl Posted July 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2011 We are considering an outside cabin category 4 or 5 forward on Infinity Alaska cruise - a little hesitant to be so far forward - does anyone have experience in these cabins? Thanks.

outerspaceguy Posted July 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2011 We are considering an outside cabin category 4 or 5 forward on Infinity Alaska cruise - a little hesitant to be so far forward - does anyone have experience in these cabins? Thanks. Personally, if you are a cruise ship, things should be nice. BTW: I certainly would strongly consider doing the Golden Princess instead (since you are looking at a Seattle-based r/t), simply because Golden does Glacier Bay and Infinity does not. Also, I was on Golden a few weeks ago and Infinity was tendering in Juneau. I'm not sure if it is normal for Infinity to Tender in Juneau, but every other ship in port that day got an actual berth. I remember being on Infinity in 2008 doing Alaska... she docked in Juneau and also did Hubbard... so Celebrity has really downgraded their Seattle based AK itins in the recent years... RVRCLC Posted July 10, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2011 I have been to Alaska many times. Twice, I have had wonderful rooms that were as far forward as you could get. I have, also, been in aft rooms. Fwd/aft is not so important as having rooms above and below my room. What I must have is: a balcony room and a round trip cruise and I prefer it to be from Vancouver rather than Seattle. I will not have a balcony room with a steel wall (beware of Princess, some have the wall). The wall blocks your floor to ceiling view. I do not care if the cruise tenders, or whether it goes to Hubbard Glacier or Glacier Bay. I have seen spectacular calving at Hubbard more often than Glacer Bay. Glacer Bay is a bit better for the scenery.
outerspaceguy Posted July 10, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2011 I do not care ... whether it goes to Hubbard Glacier or Glacier Bay. Infinity does neither. It used to do Hubbard, but not any longer.
RVRCLC Posted July 10, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 10, 2011 Infinity does neither. It used to do Hubbard, but not any longer. I just checked, found an Infinity cruise that goes to Hubbard. Not many ships go into Tracy Arm where the scenery is even closer to the ship than in Glacier Bay. I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity to cruise Tracy Arm again. outerspaceguy Posted July 10, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2011 I just checked, found an Infinity cruise that goes to Hubbard. You are correct: there is exactly one such cruise this season... departing Seattle on Sep 16. I certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity to cruise Tracy Arm again. I agree... but if given the choice between Glacier Bay, Hubbard, or Tracy Arm... Glacier Bay (or Hubbard) are the clear winners to me. Hubbard is just spectacular, and Glacier Bay is a National Park, after all... Put another way: Tracy Arm can be a nice "bonus onto" a cruise (replacing a port day), but I'm not going that far north for only Tracy Arm... andovertravelers Posted July 16, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2011 I think it depends on the person - I would choose Tracy Arm any day over Glacier Bay. Much more diverse and gorgeous scenery. Glaciers are everywhere in Alaska - you can fly over them or onto them in Juneau. Tracy Arm is a day not to be missed, in my opinion.
wvufan Posted July 17, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 17, 2011 If cabin 6019 is available, grab it. Huge oceanview cabin. Downside is that being forward, you will rock and roll if there are heavy seas. Happy Sails to You OOOEEE :D:D Bob and Phyl
