grak Posted July 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2011 Planning a cruise from Rome to Venice and wonder which side of the Crown to be on. Can you even see land while cruising? Appreciate your suggestions!
aquilegia Posted July 15, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2011 No, you won't see much land. Coming into Venice, the better views will be on the starboard side, but then the best view of all will be gained by going up to one of the top decks to see the whole panorama, so I really don't think it matters which side your cabin is on. likeashrek Posted July 15, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2011 My wife and I always take an aft cabin. So regardless which way you come into or exit the port you have a panoramic view. Enjoy your cruise.
grak Posted July 15, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted July 15, 2011 Another question -- are the seas smooth, rough??? I know that depends on the weather but just in general. We plan to go in September.
Bracket Creep Posted July 15, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2011 Another question -- are the seas smooth, rough??? I know that depends on the weather but just in general. We plan to go in September. FWIW, we were on the Star from Rome to Venice last month, and for the most part, the only way we knew the ship was moving was from the vibration of the engines. The one exception was a period of a few hours after leaving Livorno, during which we were traveling into a headwind...but even then, it wasn't bad, just a little rocking. Barbie075 Posted July 15, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 15, 2011 We went in September and the seas were very calm for the entire cruise. It will not matter whether you are on port or starboard. The only place you want to be on starboard is entering Venice and you will want to be on deck for a much better view. It is breathtaking to enter Venice early morning with just enough fog to make it beautiful. Have a great time, wish I were going -- but on to new and different places. Go as high as possible so that you can see practically the whole city. Its breathtaking and you will never forget it.
disnyfan Posted July 16, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2011 Was hoping to see Sicily as we sailed by. Doing Barcelona to Venice next spring.
