The Jewel is a Jewel

Just got back from the Bahamas on the Jewel. Let me just say that the ship keeps getting better with each cruise we take. This was our third trip on the Jewel this year and are planning two more. We just can't get enough. The staff is second to none. The food keeps getting better all the time. The Executive Chef, Orwill is always visible making sure that guests are happy and getting anything and everything they want. And to boot he has a fine sense of humor and is very easy to talk to. Monica, our concierge, Treated us like family from the time we boarded till the moment she escorted us off the ship. The entire wait staff and Maitre D's were ever so friendly and accomodating, always smiling and caring. They are one happy staff. The reason is that they work for Hugo, the Hotel Director. He is without question the most loved boss I have ever seen. He is everywhere on the ship at the same time. He is such a hard working man. I don't know when he sleeps because no matter where I was on the ship at any hour, there was Hugo making sure everything was running well ( and always with a smile ). I was lucky enough to have dinner with the captain. We became friends. Spent time with him the next day, just two guys hanging out. He's already e mailed me. Just goes to show what kind of ship this is. A great big family that just makes me want to go back for more. To those of you who are on the fence about which ship to cruise on, the choice should be simple. The Jewel

There are all new menus coming out in a couple of weeks. The Jewel will be the first ship

to have the new format. From what I was told, they are upgrading the food in the main dining rooms to make it more like a specialty restaurant. They are also turning Tangos into a Brazillian Steakhouse

We loved the Jewel when we sailed on her in April of 2010 for our honeymoon. We loved her so much we are sailing again Sept. 3. I am not wishing the summer away but I am hoping September comes quickly. :D Do you know when Tango's is going to be converted to the Brazillian steakhouse? Thanks for the info..

Your experience is the same we experienced in June. We didn't directly interact with the Captain or Hugo but we saw them out and about all the time.

One night my family of five went to dinner at Azura's and the hostess said the wait would be more than 30 minutes and she was directing people to Tzar's instead. We had already tried Tzar's the night before and didn't want to go back as it wasn't a good fit for us and way too busy so we said we would rather wait. Christopher the dining manager was there as well. When we said we would wait, Christopher instructed the waiters to rearrange two tables that were a 4 and a 2 into a table for us and we were seated immediately. The next three nights we returned to Azura's and the hostess remembered our names and cabin number. We realllllllly fell in love with the officers and crew onboard the Jewel. Their attention to detail was amazing.

I concur! The staff is top notch. I NEVER encountered anyone that was unhappy or didn't greet us with a smile. The managers were everywhere on the ship and I saw them pitching in to help from mixing drinks at the bar to bussing tables in the main dining room and the buffet.

In a couple of weeks as in...July 30th? I'll keep my fingers crossed because that's we sail. :D

Thank you for your review.

Unfortunately, Chris had to leave in the middle of our cruise. Mikaela ( Micki ) the restaurant manager is wonderful and as attentive to detail

We loved the Jewel as well.

Although we had access to Cagneys for lunch, one day while in port we decided to try the buffet.

We found so many choices and everything was fresh and delicious.

When we were walking over to a table, the Captain and some Officers who were having lunch asked us to share their table.

We had met them all previously at a Suite Cocktail party and they remembered us.

We had a very nice lunch with great company. Lots of laughs and interesting stories.

My glass of ice tea was leaking, and one of the Officers jumped up before I even noticed and got me a new glass. The Captain joked that maybe he should spend some time in the buffet! :D

They are a wonderful staff and we plan on sailing with them again soon.

Glad you had such a good time.

I don't sail her til 10/1. I hope the churrascaria (Brazilian steakhouse) is running by then. I went to the one on the Epic and it was definitely the best meal I had on that ship. It's just a shame to lose the Mexican restaurant which was so good. Better they should have dumped the Italian restaurant.

I can understand the OP's enthusiasm for the Jewel as we have sailed with HD Hugo many times on the Dawn. Whatever ship he is on is a happy ship. We board the Jewel in October but unfortunately, Hugo will be on vacation. We will miss him.

So glad to read this post! We will be sailing on the Jewel this Saturday! We are very curious about when the menus will be in place, and have actually read a few posts back that it would be the 30th. We'll be sure to report back when we return. Counting down the days!!!:)

I think you have a different perspective of the cruise when you are traveling in a cabin that offers you breakfast and lunch at cagneys a concierge and butler at your disposal and various other perks like priority boarding and tendering

I dont think it is a true picture of the cruise that most of the so called masses travel

However, I have been on the jewel twice last year and thought it was great

Of course i was in a suite and experienced the amenities including the private courtyard that is a blessing for someone like me who enjoys solitude.

Cheers!!

I am looking forward to our next cruise on the Jewel in October. Know that Hugo runs a wonderful ship, as he did on the Dawn. (Herb, will just miss you!) Jewel was my first cruise, it was the "Girlfriends" cruise with Good Morning America broadcasting live. No one told me that cruising is additive!
