Flying question+carry on, PLEASE ANSWER

I will be flying to Hawaii in a couple of weeks for a cruise and I'm bringing a really good dress for the formal night. The thing is I want to bring it as an additonal carry on b/c I don't want to pack it. Is this allowed? I have a wedding 4 days after my return of which I am wearing the same dress and I would rather have it on me so nothing happens. I am flying both Delta and United Airlnes. I will also have a duffel bag as my regular carry on I just wanted to make sure I could take the dress on also, with not problem

Thanks in advance

I think you would get your best answer if you ask the airline you will be flying with. Every airline has different rules and they all change the rules frequently. Call the airline and write down the name of the person you speak with.
