Child Control

and would you do it to an adult that was disturbing you? take him by the hand to the service desk?

i think not.

the action you are describing is a bully.

I would be seriously concerned about an the mental health of an adult snorkling in the hot tub kicking people in the ribs or splashing them in the face - so much so that no, I would not confront them or go anywhere near them, but I sure as heck would be tattle-taleing on them!!

If there was a child acting out of sorts and possibly in danger with no parent in sight, absolutly I would be taking them to the service desk. Probably after causing a scene hollering for the mother of the abandoned child.

It is lose-lose these days - that mother who pressed assault charges for someone taking the hand of her bratty child would probably be the first to sue if the kid had been injured and noone else attempted to "prevent" the injury;)

My DH and I have chosen not to have children, because quite frankly we are not interested in it. And I am most certainly not interested in being part of a village assisting to raise everyone else's:)

wow. have you actually seen an adult or kid actually doing that?

Those were some of the poorly behaved kid examples in this thread.

After which you asked this: "and would you do it to an adult that was disturbing you? take him by the hand to the service desk?"

And as you are literally comparing the poorly behaved children to poorly behaved adults (apples to apples, when they are not), I used the examples provided.

Yes, there are poorly behaved adults everywhere - and one would handle it completly differently than a poorly behaved children. Good grief. No, someone is not going to take a poorly behaved (seemingly abondoned;)) adult by the hand to the service desk.

Yep. Lived it, in fact. I can't stop laughing now, because I've got a mental image of a random grown up snorkeling and kicking his flippers in the hot tub. I wouldn't escort that person anywhere, but I would probably have to video tape it.

Lighten up all the folks that think their precious children are being insulted or having their rights infringed. No one is talking (except the "hate" person from TX) about ANY kids. We are discussing children that are misbehaving and not being supervised, or in some cases, children that are being supervised by adults who think the kids have a right to act up. We are NOT talking about kids who just sit in the hot tub and don't cause any problems (unless it is an adults only hot tub. rofl).

And we aren't folks without children, by the way. Mine were not well behaved kids by any means.

Oddly enough, we are allowed to dislike kids in general, even thought that isn't what most of us are discussing. We aren't allowed to do anything to them, but there is no reason that adults need to have any special feelings or attachment to other people's kids, even if they ARE well behaved.

So...you prefer your child jumps into the "too shallow" hot tub...slips...and cracks his skull open.

Watch your child...then I won't have to report him as abandoned.

From Mirriam Webster:

ABANDON suggests that the person or thing left behind is helpless or needs protection

Yes!!!!

and i would be the one pressing charges for you touching my child. mind your own business. and i suggest you look up the word abandoned.

Seriously? We're in a society where people need to be afraid to intervene when a child is possibly in trouble. "Oh, I can't hold child's hand because if we DO find his parents, I'll have charges pressed against me."

You clearly state that you would be present with your child. This wouldn't apply to you, so.... the problem is what?

I've been on both NCL cruises and CCL cruises and find children left unattended all the time in the hot tubs and pools. I think parents use cruise ships as baby sitters for their kids. Personally I just avoid those areas if I want to have any kind of peace and quiet.

That is so sad. I have wondered for years why my two year old was able to get to one end of the other and up to the next deck on our DCL cruise (he left the kids club on his own when supposedly the staff was watching the kids during the parent meeting.) Now I know why no one said "Hey, that little toddler has no adult with him" and seemingly let him go on his merry way.

Regardless of that, I will always always stop a child from getting hurt. Sue me.

Let's ban fat people from the hot tubs. They annoy me. Or smelly people from the dining room, they ruin my appetite... I am going to report all of these annoyances to Carnival security.

It's called tolerance people. Get over yourselves - have a cocktail and relax! You are no more important than a child having fun!

So your saying you might have to be on a bender to tolerate?

OH Geez, & I'm not one to cuss. But that would pi$$ me the eff off!

See, that is what I can't stand, ppl like this mother in your story and some of the parents on this thread. It's like some of them have forgotten what it means to be a parent and let thier children just be raised by wolves.

Especially that one that said their child "deserves a vacation from school, mowing the lawn and helping gma" LOL! Ridiculous.

I see too many ppl want to be their child's friend and not their parent.

I think you are the one who is ridiculous. I am very much a parent to my kids and you would never see them in that situation. I'm curious what you find ridiculous about my kid earning money with his own lawn service and helping his great gma shop and other things? The nerve of some people.

I don't see how parents allowing their child to use the hot tubs equals them not supervising their children. Am I missing something here?

Yes you are...The rules posted on the side of the Hot tubs says "children are not allowed without adult supervision"....I would never allow my children to get in the hot tub with a bunch of adults without me being present....Would you???............would you allow your 12/13 year old daughter in a hot tub unsupervised, if so I would think you evedently have no children......Dennis

I thought your stmt that children NEED a vacation was ridiculous. Your child mowing lawns to earn money is great. Helping his grandmother, is something he should do. It's part of his responsibility as a member of a family. But saying he needs a vacation from school and homework and mowing lawns is just ridiculous, to me.

If you know your history, summer break began because the children were needed during the summer season to help the family not because they need a vacation from studying.

that's great... you're an active parent, on a family vacation - not a "dump your kids somewhere so you can party" vacation. so this doesn't apply to your kids.

I think that the point that some people are making is that there are kids out there who aren't expected to do anything at home, who are entitled, are not reprimanded, and act like crazy people in public.

I commend you for giving your son responsibility and teaching him how to earn and save. It's the path of responsibility that many kids have never tread.

I've enjoyed all your posts and I'm certainly not flaming you. :)

I don't know how I feel about this... not that it matters:p

kids get plenty of "time off" from their school responsibilities. I think it's important to have family time together though and, unfortunately though, that's really restricted due to parents' work schedules. So whether they do that on day trips, or a week long cruise, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that they're together, having fun.

I'm always amazed on these threads how defensive some people become of their children. If your children are well behaved, then why so defensive?

In the immortal words of The Bard, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Snort.

and i would be the one pressing charges for you touching my child. mind your own business. and i suggest you look up the word abandoned.

Seriously? Did you read what was going on while the mom was not paying attention?

First, I can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing from a parent who teaches their children to respect others.

The problem, IMHO, is that some parents don't respect others and have no intentions of teaching their children too. I was once in a situation where a parent was acting rude toward me and their probably fourteen year old child, apologized for the parent's behavior. I felt sorry for the child.

Exactly. My "rights/privileges" comment is along this line -- I get so tired of self-centered, entitled little "Me Me Me" people passing that attitude on to their progeny. Sometimes it ISN'T all about you...or your kids. It's no wonder the children act the way they do. (Again, I'm talking about the out of control/unruly/rude...not every.single.child.on.a.cruise.....you all know the type I'm talking about...and if ya don't....well....maybe it hits too close to home. ;))

I have no problem with supervised children in the family-approved hot tubs. I have a problem with unsupervised or under-supervised children who have no manners and parents who don't care/have given up. Yes, kids will be kids. But parents should be parents.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You have no idea what my child does to earn a vacation. What he does for his gma is way beyond what an average great grandson should do. Does he NEED a vacation...yes. Does he DESERVE a vacation....ABSOFREAKINGLOUTLY. MYOB Have a nice day. BTW hes goes to year around school on top of everything else.

TY I appreciate your comments. Im for sure not saying my kids are perfect. Far from it. People who make comments who havent the foggiest idea what they are talking about annoy the crud out of me. My kids will act out im sure. I am also sure it will be followed by swift and correcting action from my wife or I.:D

People, people, people... No one should be going in those hot tubs. I have a hot tub and I make everyone who goes in there shower before and then I check the levels to make sure no bacteria is living in it. The only difference is I know that on a cruise ship people are not showering before going in and THERE ARE NOT 3500 PEOPLE GOING IN MY HOT TUB!
