Falmouth - Is an excursion necessary?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has explored Falmouth on their own (ie no excursion?). We will be visiting with a one year old baby and are wondering if we can walk off the boat and check out a few stores and have some jerk chicken and perhaps a beer? Is it relatively safe? How far away is the town from the port?

Also any suggestions for places to eat/shop/sightsee?

Thanks!

Right now, there's not too much to explore. This is a port designed specifically for cruise ships...and all of the shops are not completed yet. There will be some vendors, and it's as "safe" as anywhere else. There really isn't much within walking distance. Right now, it's more of a jumping off point for excursions.

If you don't want to go on some sort of tour/adventure, then staying on the ship will be a treat...it will be virtually empty all day....and it's a lovely way to spend a day on the ship!
