Snorkeling in Grand Turk

Has anyone done any excursions in Grand Turk? Especially snorkeling? Does anyone have experience booking excursions independently of the cruise ship? I'm new to this and would welcome any information. I don't know if I should be concerned about licensing and insurance of any company I might consider. Or even how I would go about verifying such a thing.

My 19YO son and I are cruising to Grand Turk next May. I've never been there, but when we went on our first cruise last month I booked all my own shore excursions. I went to the library and got a Frommer's book on the Caribbean and found recommendations there, booked with the operators, and saved a bunch of money, avoided crowds, and generally had a great time. We'll book on our own again this trip for all ports.

I thought I would bring this back to the top because this is exactly what we want to do when we cruise into Grand Turk. Any suggestions would be wonderful!
