SKYBAR STIRRER Posted August 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Just reading where trikes are now able to join in the excitement of the motorcycle cruises out of Bayonne on the Explorer. They have had to build a larger width gangway for the trikes. I hope to see some on our Feb. 27 motorcycle cruise. This will be my 8th trip with the company that runs this cruise. Just a fabulous vacation. Not allowed to share the website but easy to find.

mag Posted August 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2011 As it gets closer my DH may have some questions. Actually, when I talked to Tami she did say that she could connect me with 2 other riders from MA. I am assuming that you are one of them. Thanks alot! Our 2nd motorcycle cruise. Karen that is great news. Will be nice to see you folks again. Wish you could bring Jon and Sue with you but it looks like it will not happen. Kathy and I are heading up to Bayonne next week as Steve is having a test of the new gangway. He arranges for several trikes to be there so I'll send some pics. xraymagic Posted October 17, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 17, 2011 Looking forward to seeing your pictures. We've been working on Sue and Jon but they have told us that they are aiming for 2013. So of course I've started looking at that too. We are looking forward to seeing you and Kathy again. We were committed to spending some of our time with friends on our last cruise but this time we are dedicating ourselves to the cruise group. You'll be sick and tired of us by the end of the cruise. :D Have you still been using Delta?

We looked at a trike in the HD showroom on Saturday.... I can't imagine one of those fitting on the gangway.... MSG6567 Posted November 26, 2011 #10 Share Posted November 26, 2011 Only 3 months before we head up to New Jersey for the bike cruise. A very good friend is going for his third bike cruise. I got to meet a bunch of his friends that are going on the cruise, nice bunch of people. Very friendly and excited for the bike cruise. I know it will be a great time. I think one has a trike so I am looking forward to seeing that on the Islands.
bscrive Posted December 12, 2011 #11 Share Posted December 12, 2011 There are six of us going on the March 19th cruise with Tami and Steve. We have all cruised before but this is the first time with the bikes. We cannot wait. I found out about the bike cruise right after we booked another cruise a couple of years ago. We finally got it set up last January and we are counting the days. Anyone else going with us? I know there is a motorcycle club joining us. bscrive Posted February 15, 2012 #16 Share Posted February 15, 2012 I will be bringing my bike on the back of a pickup. Do they have a ramp or something to get the bike off and put them back on when we get back or do I have to bring a ramp? Or is there something near by, a hill or something. You will need to bring a ramp. The area where the bikes get set up is a parking lot beside the ship. Everything is flat, flat, flat. Unless you can find somewhere to unload them and ride over to the pier.

Do they have a ramp or something to get the bike off and put them back on when we get back or do I have to bring a ramp? Or is there something near by, a hill or something. Where we unload the bikes is a parking lot, However the port is a former military installation with warehouses still there. There is a long warehouse just past the luggage drop off and Last time up there I noticed that there was a walk up ramp at the end (so possible at both ends. The ramp leads up to a loading dock but I do not know how wide it is. From past cruisers I know you can get a bike up onto the docks and back a truck uo to the dock (unknown height). From what I saw you could back up to the ramp and it might be possible to unload on the ramp. coming back you could drive up the ramp and if you could turn aroud then could just drive down the ramp into your truck and be done. I would suggest bringing a ramp just in case, be on the safe side. Ed

Triker Couple Posted February 21, 2012 #21 Share Posted February 21, 2012 So what's the deal on the motorcycle cruise? I stumbled across this thread today and reading all the replys it sounds like there are cruises out of NJ on the Freedom that allows you to bring motorcycles? Sallie and I ride a 2010 Goldwing with a Roadsmith conversion trike. A cruise like this sounds like fun. Can someone give the details? Thanks

Can someone give the details? Thanks I cannot post the web site but just google Motorcycle cruises and you should come up with it. They can take trikes out of Bayonne as they have a special built ramp. The ship is the Explorer of the Seas. Check it out. I have done about 8 so far with my bike and leave again next Monday for a 11 nighter.
slab42 Posted March 12, 2012 #23 Share Posted March 12, 2012 I heard about these cruises recently and I was trying to get info about them from Tami (have another cruise already booked through her) but she never replied to my email about the motorcycle cruise. Are you allowed to ride on the island other than in a guided tour? I don't mind riding in a group but I have rented scooters while on an island before and it was fun to be able to cruise the island at your leisure. bscrive Posted March 16, 2012 #24 Share Posted March 16, 2012 I am going on the one this Monday and as far as I know, you have to stay with the group. To me that is better because if something happens to you and you don't make the ship you will have to find a way back home with your bike. Also, I don't think their insurance would cover and our own insurance does not cover you in the caribbean I think, I may be wrong.

They make a fuel stop to start with, make some scenery/attraction stops, a longer lunch stop (usually time for a swim) and then a stop back at the pier for some shopping, before going back on the ship. We just finished a cruise last week and on 3 of our islands we had police escort and the 4th was escorted by the Caribbean Eagles. They block traffic and take you on a ride that you won't forget. We have already booked our 3rd bike cruise for next year.
